View Full Version : Suggestions for sissy bar/tour bag
Monstermile 19th January 2006, 22:13 I've decided that I really don't want to bother with saddle bags so my only option is for a tour pack or sissy bar bag. I need something that will hold enough for two people for a couple of days. But I prefer something that I could also use for day trips. Maybe something that is expandable or that you can add to. I like some of the T-Bag stuff, but for using for day trips most of their stuff is just too big for my liking. Any suggestions??? And how about some pics if you have them
tstoeckel 20th January 2006, 00:01 I had the same needs as yourself and actually ended up with two separate sissy bar bags from Harley.
For overnight and general, around-town stuff I got the Nylon Overnight Bag (http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444184474 3&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309082939&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309082939&bmUID=1137711361206&bmLocale=en_US). This is a good size for short trips and fits nicely on the bike.
For longer trips I got the Nylon Ultra Touring Bag (http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444184475 5&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309082939&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309082939&bmUID=1137711487219&bmLocale=en_US). I got lucky and managed to buy it new on eBay for $100. It mounts the same way as the overnight bag. Both come with waterproof inside liners.
Thus far I'm pretty happy with the combination. I would have preferred one bag that did it all but I just wasn't finding it so I settled on two bags.
decman 20th January 2006, 00:16 I have those bags that tstoeckel mentioned. Made by SAC.
Great bags but they are soft bags and will slump after a few
hours on the road. I had to make a bracket for them to keep them
upright on my long trips. No big deal and I use them a lot.
But I may go to harder T-Bags next time.
The do sell pairs of bags one small and one bigger.
TheTick 20th January 2006, 01:07 The Harley SAC bags kind of suck. The non-ultras sag and are "water resistant" not "water proof". The nylon bags fades if exposed to sunlight (though SAC will redye it for free)
Look for the Bikers Friend. Doesn't fade. Water proof. Doesn't sag. Downside is it loads from the sides, and it only has D-rings on the bottom for mounting, not for attaching additional luggage.
Albie1200 20th January 2006, 01:35 I'll second the bikers friend. I got one for Christmas and I am amazed how comfortable it is as a backrest. I see you uwant to do 2up, but you can switch it around and mount it behind the sissy bar.
Monstermile 20th January 2006, 01:50 I looked at those Bikers Friend bags and honestly they don't look much different than the T-Bag or Kuryakyn roll bags. And they are more expensive. I came across this one that I am considering. The Weekender (http://motorcycle-luggage.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ML306&Category_Code=SissyBarBags&Product_Count=0) For the price I could get it for longer trips and a T-Bag roll bag for around town and day trips.
ziggyhd1 29th January 2006, 15:40 I have the T-bag expandable, with top roll. It works well for two for a weekend and you can use the top roll by itself for personal use, although it sags a bit used by itself. I also have an Ameritex med tour pack (about 14" wide by 12" tall and maybe 10" deep) Its fake leather and works well for a weekend if its just me. Also this bag holds a 30-pack very easily for beer runs!!!
bubbahog 31st January 2006, 12:29 Gonna try me one of these:
Kuryakyn Tombstone Bag (http://motorcycle-luggage.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MLK4143&Category_Code=)
Will report.

VTRII 2nd February 2006, 05:23 I use a T-Bag Super-T. I use both pieces for big trips, and the roll bag for weekends.

I bought the Jafrum T bag/knapsack but the shoulder straps were too small to use it as a backpack, have you had this problem? I found the quality of the leather construction to be good.
hdmc_ru2 2nd February 2006, 06:37 Hi Andy,
I have just ordered this bag but have not received it yet so I can't comment on the length of the straps when using as a backpack.
I am glad to hear that the construction of the leather is good though.
It just seemed it cost a lot less than the T-Bags version and it looks pretty good too in leather instead of nylon, so I hope it lasts for awhile.
Is the rain cover that comes with it fairly durable?
