Grizzly 21st January 2006, 04:04 Looks very much like a Buell....cept the price tag....Buells are not that much are they?
lagerdrinker 21st January 2006, 04:14 sorry about the link, im stupid. its under street sport class. anyway the buells are priced under 11k.

Nah. Japan just tends to copy other people's design a lot. Look at the Yamaha "Star" line and take a guess what they copied there.
Jason's Sporty 22nd January 2006, 14:54 Man thats just plagerism, Looks just like a firebolt to me. And Buell's start at $4500 for the blast to just over $11,000 for the firebolt 12. Would still rather get a buell than a copy of one.
I also just checked the spec sheet
8.4 compression ratio.
max torque at 3500 rpm
I call this bike a granny bike. I dont think this can get out of its own way.
lagerdrinker 22nd January 2006, 15:04 where do they get the balls to say they started it???? im not saying buell actually did, ducatis have had v-twin standards for years. does monster ring a bell?
rottenralph 22nd January 2006, 15:08 Japs have always been masters of copying and improving on existing products. I personally try not to buy foreign goods but that is my choice. I was surprised to see the dresser for over 21K. Sounds like jap bikes are starting to get expensive or maybe a lot more profit is being built in. I would also rather have a Buell. I believe they were joking when they said they started the torque revolution. I thought it funny and the price is a fricken joke. Wow, those bikes are expensive.
lagerdrinker 22nd January 2006, 15:10 i see they also have a limited edition R1 for around 26k...are they on crack over there?

I guess they figure if Harley can do it with thier CVO program they might as well try. What do they say, "Imitation is the highest form of flattery."
The MT-01 is more like a BT on a Buellish frame with is 5500 or so redline. It could be a fun bike to ride even if it's not fast.

They have tried things like that numerous times and most of them were failures. For example, the Rune. Big price tag and big engine like on a CVO, but a unique looking bike. I think they still haven't sold all of them made.
Wait until China enters the market; then they will get a taste of their own strategy. Making copies for a lot cheaper.
jborlace 23rd January 2006, 01:43 What the heck is Yamaha thinking.I checked some of their prices and they are unreal.I looked at the VStar 650 and 1100 customs. They are 3,000 dollars more than they were 2 years ago.I almost bought one when I got my Sporty and the 650 was 4,899 and the 1100 was 7,899 msrp.Glad I got the Sporty..
deadeye 23rd January 2006, 06:34 ...are they on crack over there?
They probably stole that from us too!:smoke
That thing really does look like a Buell. They had their V-Max in the 80's or 90's, and I heard they were coming out with it again.

the v-max was some sorta power cruiser/standard? cant really define what that thing is too tall, too heavy, and fugly.but it was fast.
yamaha is advertising like theyre the first ones to put a torquey v-twin in a sportbike frame.
wasnt the term superbike coined after the sportster? not sure but i have heard that and read that a different places. i dont care if they copy but keep thier mouths shut about whos first, cause it aint them!

looks like one of those toys that turns into a robot
Stevlom 31st January 2006, 00:24 "This motorcycle is like nothing you've ever ridden - an air-cooled 1670cc V-twin powerplant that produces lots of soul stirring torque, wrapped in a sports chassis."
I agree it looks like a Buell. It has about 400cc more displacement.
deanbruhn 31st January 2006, 00:53 Shit I want to do a big twin build in a spondon frame with a 125" motor and a 6 speed and undertail pipes, It would mop the floor with that thing any day of the week.
But that being said they are getting into the game a little late and anyone can put a big motor into a sportbike frame as i just showed as to what i want to do.
I will give em one thing thats a nice looking vrod rip off headlight (gag) and the ass warmers would be great on a cold night granted on a hot day in traffic it might raise gun shot victims numbers in states with conceal and carry laws.
I want to go design bikes for buell, does anyone know how to get ahold of them for that job position
