Well, this is new for me, but seems that Harley makes bikes on Brazil too.
A friend from sportster.org told me and I did a google search to find more.

So, any non-USA sportster??
The code of my VIN number says both were done in USA, with the K, Plant of Manufacture (Kansas City, KS)

I don't know what code do they put (if they put) if the machine was made in Brazil.

But, nobody is surprised that actually Harley makes bikes outside USA?? I was shocked when I found out this...

The Harley-Davidson assembly line in Brazil (which is controlled by HD headquarters in WI) put out yearly about 3.000 motorcycles

It put together Softail (except Springers) and Touring models, and now for the 08 they started also assembling Dyna and Sportster. VRSC and CVO's are still shipped fully assembled from USA.

The motorcycles build are for consumption locally, hence the fact that the VIN starts differently.

in US the VIN starts as 1HD1
for international Mkts 5HD1
and Brazilian Assembled bikes 9321 (no HD in the VIN- 9=St America, Brazil - 32= HD)

Japan had a license to manufacture Harley's before World War II. That license ended after Pearl Harbor.
