They arrived today but will not install until the SE A/C arrives. However, inspecting the pipes, noticed that they use a reversion system and not free flow baffles. Also there's some surface rust on the inside. This rust normal on a brand new exhaust?
With the package was a notice recommending use of Chrome Guard "to prevent hot spotting and possible chrome discoloration". Has anyone here used this or a similar product, or is this just another extra money making scheme they have?
Thanks,
"J"

Far as I've seen, shouldn't be any rust on new pipes. As far as products to stop blueing of pipes :laugh :laugh

I've ordered CS tapered muffs for my '05 1200C and I wasn't sure if they used the crossover tube like the stock system. I'll let you know if they have any rust in them. Also did some carb rejetting( #45, new needle and 2 1/2 turns on the air screw) when I added the SE intake. I cut the baffles out of the stock muffs but not really happy with the sound. Hope the CS sounds better.

It's not unusual for 'new' mufflers to have a light coat of surface rust on the inside. It is usually prevented by the manufacturer hitting the insides with a light coat of oil prior to wrapping the pipes/mufflers. Not everyone does this and it really doesn't matter anyway. The oil burns off the first time you fire up the bike and then it's free to rust again. Assuming the bike is ridden regularly and gets thoroughly warmed up, moisture in the exhaust would not be a problem that you would expect to cause rust through. The CS tapered muffs for the '04 and later Sports do have the fitting for connecting to the factory crossover pipe. The Cycle Shack slip ons have a near universal approval...enjoy!!

gp9739,
Been on vacation for the last week. When i get the CS muffs installed I''ll definitely let you know how the sound compares to the modified stockers. Have 400 miles on the 1200C and it seems to be running better with every mile.

I put on the cycle shack slip-ons over a year ago. Now that you mentioned it, mine had a thin layer of surface rust on the inside also. Once I fired them up I forgot all about it. What a big difference from stock and after a year I think they sound better everytime I start her up.

Hey "J",
I have been interested in the CS slip-ons for a while. Expect to get some for the new season. I particulatly like taper tips rather than slash, baloney, turn-out, etc.
Are the baffles in these removeable?
Can you insert Thunder Monsters into them?

IronMick,
The baffles aren't removeable on the tapered muffs but you will love the way they sound right out of the box. Don't think the Thunder Monsters would fit.

I have the Cycle Shack turnouts. Love them. A lot better sound and performance than stock. A great addition to the bike.
