Sometimes the biggest productions start out is the most innocent ways....

Maybe you've heard of that new TV show called Miami Ink. It's about a real tattoo parlor of the same name located in, of all places, Miami Beach.

Well, my wife took a liking to watching it, and since she is the master of the remote control, I watched along with her. It's a pretty cool show, and since we both like tattoos we were interested in it from the get-go.

Meanwhile, a couple months after the show comes out, my mother calls me and said that she had a "buy one, get one free" airline ticket voucher from doing business with a local bank that she wasn't going to use, and did we want to use it.

Not thinking too much of it at the time, I said "sure", figuring that it would probably end up in our trash can. I really hate to fly.... :frownthre

So anyhow, I bring the voucher home, and within a day or two my wife says, "Wouldn't it be neat to take a quick trip down to Florida and get tattoos at Miami Ink?" "Especially since we can fly for half price!"

I told her I would think about it, since the thought of me being crammed into an aluminum tube with a bunch of indifferent people is not high on my list of fun things to do... Since we just celebrated our 5th anniversary, and were looking for some kind of getaway to treat ourselves to, I said yes.

Within a day of agreeing to this, she began to tell this whole tattoo trip plan to different people she knows around the country. One of her friends in Canada nearly blew her wad when she heard about it because she really loves the idea and wants to go down to the same place and get a tattoo herself. Since she was so crazy about going down to Florida, and since I like to avoid commercial flights like they're STD's, I told my wife to find out if her friend was interested in going on the plane with her, and that I would just ride my bike down instead.

Of course, her friend immediately agreed to this idea, so now I have The Sportster Motorcycling Adventure 2006 to look forward to!

It was easy for me to justify taking the scoot since we were planning to rent a bike when we got down there anyhow, plus she knows how much I hate to fly... Besides, I love a good road trip!

Anyhow, I will be departing home in the early morning hours on Tuesday, September 5th, the day after Labor Day. I will do around 600 miles until I get to Columbia, SC where I will spend the night at a friend's house. Then, up the next morning bright and early for the second leg of almost another 600 miles until I get to Miami Beach. We will be there until Sunday the 10th, when I will check out of the hotel and start the ride back home.

If anybody here is from the greater Miami area, I would love to swing by and meet you. Post to this thread if you'll be available that weekend, and maybe we can stop by and say hi.

I'm really looking forward to getting some new ink, a nice vacation with my wife and a monster road trip on my favorite two wheeled passion. :banana

Artie, I'm actually still tossing around a couple different ideas right now....

One is my kids names on either side of a dragon (which symbolizes a protector).

The other one I'm thinking of is an eagle swooping down (front view). I'd like it's wings to wrap around the USMC text tattoo I already have.

Not sure which way I want to go yet...
