I've asked this question before but never got a good response so I figured I'd give it another shot.

Is there a way to add a tach to an 05 1200 Custom the same way you add the kit to a non-custom sporty? If i got the kit like the one Xena / SG got and put it together, converted to a top mount guage system, wouldn't it work?? Don't like the look of the small add-on tach kit that HD sells. C'mon, somebody out there has to have tried this before...:D

LDO, I think you may have to change the risers & clamps & I don't know what else to put that kit on your custom. I'm still trying to figure out how to get an older model small tach (off a fat boy I think) to work on my '04 1200C. I got CRS (can't remember s#!+) disease, & don't know if Sporties got single or dual fire ignitions. Not that I'd know what that means either! LOL Maybe we can both get one or two of the local gurus to answer our questions here?

I'll jump in and trhy ot help:)

In order to use the one that Xena has, you would likely have to replace the upper mount with a non custom top mount. That would leave the indicator area open to the elements. Pull your riser apart (front and back covers off) and you'll see what I mean.

Also, the angle of the housing would place your guages in a more verticle position. Don't know how much more verticle, but definately more.

Wait a minute. I know on the pre rubber mounts, they have a side by side tach speedo kit for the customs. You'll need to buy that bracket and then a tach from the '04 up (different ignition). But then it would be mounted on the lower of the riser and not the upper like Xena has.

Dump the stock riser ,get yourself a set of T-Bars and add the Dakota Digital gauge with built in speedo and tach combo.:tour
