Hi People, although I am not from NM, I'm looking for a little local knowledge about a route. This June I'm going to be traveling from southern Colorado to El Paso, TX. The majority of the ride will be through NM, and I'm planning to *avoid* I-25 Alb-TorC-Las Cruces-El Paso. My planned route will be Hwy 285-54 Santa Fe-almost nowhere-Carrizozo-Alamogordo-El Paso. My question is mainly about the Santa Fe - almost nowhere - Carrizozo stretch. Is there anything in the way of services along that stretch? Service stations, places to eat, convenience stores, anything? That will be the longest stretch, and I'll obviously need to find *someplace* to gas up. Any more or less locals familiar with the area? Thanks for any info anyone has!

I would take the route following 14 through madrid, you can fuel up before you cross I-40. Continue on 14 all the way to till you hit 60. Take 60 to 42 and head down to Corona. Fill up there and head to Carrizozo. On a Sportster it's alway a good idea to carry at least a gallon jug of fuel in your saddlebag, when your on long trips especially by yourself. You'll be alright following this route, but after Carrizozo your on your own.
