View Full Version : 1977 Ironhead
Finksies 8th February 2006, 19:09 Here she is. I plan on putting on a sporster gastank, weld-one rearend, and maybe lowering the front. Im attempting to make a little bobber. Do these forks look longer than stock or is it just me. Ill post some more pics in a week or two once the back end is torn down.
chris horne 8th February 2006, 19:19 Hi Finksies nice looking bike you have there.
wellcome to the forum from the uk.
DM-SC 8th February 2006, 21:04 Nice find! :smoke
9fingerkustomz 8th February 2006, 21:13 Nice Scoot! The forks look to be normal length, if they are over - it's not to much (less than 2 inches).
Cool, another Bobber project, I'm getting ready to post some pics of my '78 project. Why would you want to swap the tank out for a sporty one when you have the perfect tank on thee for the o'l school look allready?

Fork 9th February 2006, 00:04 Very cool looking bike!! Congrats and welcome to the forum.
IronMick 9th February 2006, 04:50 Welcome to the forum. Hey, there is nothing like an ironhead, eh.
74FeHeadXLH 9th February 2006, 05:35 welcome fink...nice lookin ironhead ya got there.....why not keep the porker tank, was the tank of the times for your bike
jwbradbury 9th February 2006, 05:43 Yo Ironhead...
GREAT looking ride for sure. My first thought was that the forks are longer and seem to have more of a rake, maybe one of the better after-market upgrades. Difficult to see without having the wheel aligned with the frame. Post a couple more pics when you get a chance.
The tank issue is always subjective, some like original, some don't. I'm a fan of the longer fatties that tend to fill the entire backbone from the neck to the saddle. But again, it's a subjective call.
Either way, it's a bitchin' bike. CONGRATS...!

Jeffytune 9th February 2006, 06:02 Hi.
First off, welcome to the asylum.
Nice Bike, you can lower the front a bit by sliding the fork tubes up the triple trees.
As far as the weld in kit, Unless you pissin' blood, i would get a nice set of Progressive shocks and save your kidneys.
Greg81XLH 9th February 2006, 06:08 Welcome to the forum!!!! Good lookin ride, and nice to see another Ironhead here!!!!

I was gunna do that, but the forks tapper off at the very top. So I think I might just try to pick up a shorter pair at the slavage yard.
turfpro 10th February 2006, 09:08 I love the tank, If you want to trade for a sporty tank I have one on my 74 and Ill even throw in some $, Are sell that one? Let me know

Finksies 10th February 2006, 16:43 I love the tank, If you want to trade for a sporty tank I have one on my 74 and Ill even throw in some $, Are sell that one? Let me know
I would man, But I already bid on a tank on ebay. Im gunna be selling some of the parts like the gastank, rear& front fender, swingarm, chainguard, and seat. If you want any of the parts make me an offer that is reasonable. All the parts are in really good condition and have no rust. I can send more pics too.
andy 10th February 2006, 17:17 Looks like she's been well cared for. Here's a pic of my '77 and i'd say your forks are longer.
nativebroncofan 11th February 2006, 22:18 Wecome Finksies,
Nice Iron you got there man.
I have a 79 that is begging for attention as well. Good luck on the change over. Later, Nativebroncofan
Finksies 12th February 2006, 06:34 The whole back end is off, now Im just waiting for the hardtail to come in so I can start welding that up, I put on some drag bars too, seems as though Im gunna have to shorten some of the cables.
Finksies 12th February 2006, 06:36 Another pic
XL883L 14th February 2006, 03:26 by switching back and forth between both of the 77s... id have to say finksies are atleast 4" over
