Just a Voyager (http://mtcvoyager.com/kits_on_motorcycle.html?mtc=harley) trike conversion, which still retains the rear wheel for power. The good part is that it can be converted from "trike" to bike in minutes.

That thing is FUGLY. It's more like a sporty with training wheels than a trike.

It is pretty ugly, but if you're too old to ride with just two wheels, or if you have a handy cap and don't have great use of your legs, then I'd have to say that it's a beutiful thing. My neighbor had polio when he was a kid, he'd love to get a bike but figures the conversions would cost him toooo much. Something like that hooked up to a Ridley (automatic transmission) would do the trick for him at a pretty low cost.

I have seen a few around here,as alleydude said they convert eaisly,I spoke to a guy that had one on a dyna for his wife, looked pretty good, well built.
But I have to admit after looking at it up close that it is really about as close as you can get to training wheels for a motorcycle.LOL

I would think that if you have a disability whereas you could not ride a motorcycle anymore ... why not forget the trikes and all that crap and just start driving the car again?

Maybe I am missing something here ... Seems like a pretty simple solution to me.

It's difficult to imagine anything uglier than the trike picutured (unless we consider flathead :p ) but for some, the comradrie, the wind in the face and the feeling of freedom never goes away.

You don't see the difference between a Trike and a cage? If I were messed up to the point I couldn't handle two wheels, I would certainly consider a trike or a hack. You betcha!

my father can no longer ride two wheels , his legs just don't have the strength to support him and a bike , so I will be building him a trike out of my old karmann ghia come this spring
yes there is plenty of room for trikers in this world

hell I own a cj5 so that when I need to carry things that don't fit the bike I can drop the windshield just to have that "wind in the face " feel

but back on topic , that trike on e-bay is nasty (not in a good way)

I know what you mean, I used to have a CJ5 Renegade. Snatch the top off, throw the windshield down and it's almost a bike :tour :) I loved it. As for that heinous contraption? Well the disabled thing is certainly valid. And besides If you were considering getting into trikes, you could rent one of those things for a weekend to see if you could even stand to ride one before investing in one.

i saw a guy trying to sell this thing (training wheels for bikes) at a graveyard show by my house. my father was actually interested in it. i told him to make his bike a real trike if he wanted. the only advantage i saw from this is that you could remove it and it also let you still be able to lean very slightly i think the guy said it lets you lean up to 8 degrees if i remember right. and oh yes for those really lazy people out there that are willing to spend the money on this for a measly $14,000.00 you won't have to put your feet down at any more stops (now that should be the selling point right there :toungelau lol) . and i actually saw one at the cold finger run this past new years day. they guy at the graveyard show was selling it for less than that ebay auction was also.

Ummm..yep that Sporty trike ain't real attractive...but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder and thats why our bikes all look diffierent.
I got real dodgy legs (etc) and I need new knees but the doc tells me I ain't old enough to qualify for new knees yet so when my legs stop working properly I'll prolly get myself a nice trike similar to these ones manafactured here in OZ. :)

I'm sure I saw that 'quadra-trike' thingie when I was camping in Viriginia this past summer. The gentleman ridnig it looked like an older, hard-core type. I asked about the trike and he told me he has knee problems from previous bike accidents so he needs a trike. He also told me his wife rides it as she otherwise would not be able to handle a bike. I thought it was kinda cool that you could convert from bike to trike in a couple of mintues, although it left a lot to be desired in the looks department.

Do you know how frustrating it is to have a Voyager kit and have people keep asking you about your "training wheels?" It was "cute" at first, but now it's just plain ANNOYING! I've had my Voyager for a little over a month and have no desire to EVER take it off my bike. I feel more comfortable knowing those two extra wheels are there and knowing my bike won't tip over or slide out from under me if I need to do a power stop. I'm not old (42) or disabled; I just choose to ride my bike this way. Why do some people have such a problem with people riding on more than two wheels? I'm still out there with the wind in my face, I'm still contributing to poker runs, doing Patriot Guard missions, etc., so what's the big deal?

That's kind of my philosophy, too. I would also rather spend $4,500 on the Voyager than $12,000 on an actual trike conversion right now! :laugh

With whatever it takes to get there! I saw your bike on the last Skyline Drive ride pics (which I didn't see until the night before, or I might have tagged along). I am in Lynchburg so it wasn't that far away. Anyway, I was intrigued by your bike! I thought it was very cool and if that's what it takes to get you into the wind, enjoy! Good luck and if your ever in the neighborhood, lets ride!

These actually use the whole bike and when they are in the adapter have 4 wheels and tires not 3. In the Commonwealth of Kentucky they are no longer a motorcycle as the written law says a motorcycle can not have more than 3 wheels.

You may want to check that, as the Commonwealth of Virginia says the same thing but they still consider a motorcycle with the Voyager attached to be a "trike," and therefore still a motorcycle, which requires a motorcycle license. Voyager might also have more info on this:

So it is a motorcycle... add two wheels for a total of 4... making it NOT a motorcycle even though it was just a motorcycle... yet it is not a car... and technically, it isn't a 3-wheeled "trike" either...

Yeah, the cops and State troopers still consider it a motorcycle regardless of what the written law says. Interestingly, the Governator of California got out of a ticket last year when he wrecked his Harley with his son in the sidecar. He had no endorcement and used the excuse that it wasn't a motorcycle because it had 3 wheels. If that had been the rest of us who were riding in California at the time our bikes would have been impounded.

When facing the judge and while using the written law as a defense, said authority would be hard pressed to go outside that law to require an endorcement for a vehicle that is clearly not a motorcycle as defined by the rule of law they represent. Keep in mind, the Commonwealth of Kentucky still operates on the good old boy system so it is very difficult for the public to obtain the written law in the first place. The current 2006 Motor Vehicle Digest which is published by AAA publishing is out of print because there just isn't enough money for this poor Commonwealth to buy them and subsequently sell them to the public. Or, is it simply that they don't want the public to actually know what the laws are? Hmmmmm???

In any case, the Voyager isn't a trike and by definition of the Kentucky law isn't a motorcycle. It does however meet the requirements of a motor vehicle and because of this I would be more than happy to take that citation (no endorcement) right to the judge.....
