TiBaal89 28th February 2006, 06:17 interesting race... left column gets murdered in the 60ft and 1/8 mile, then finishes with this HUGE trap speed. weird.

he stalled at the line...i think he usually runs 8s
greanmeany1 28th February 2006, 23:04 i hate bracket racing[not racing]. but once i was at a ford weekend and i was forced to bracket race my 93 saleen mustang, or not race at all. my 3rd round run was a 13.47 on a 13.45 dial in. i was trying to come up with a dial in that i would not break out on . i rembered my old E PURE STOCK track record at the old OCIR [ orange county international raceway] in 1970. it was 13.39 so i dialed in 13.39. my next run you guessed it 13.39.
if i am forced to bracket race i always dial in a time quicker than i am running that way every run is ALL OUT
Dakin Engineering 28th February 2006, 23:34 My fav was the finals (All Harley Drags) in '93. This guy just left me; I'm thinking "fine, 2nd place ain't bad". I get back to the pit, drain a can of beer, halfway thru the second when my crew chief pounds me on the back and congrats, etc. Huh? "Look at the timeslip; he red-lighted!"

nice one! how many gears do you use when you race? i'm at the top of third when i finish...too bad the track here on oahu is closing next month...if it wasn't i'd be throwing some 883 gears on...oh well
Dakin Engineering 1st March 2006, 14:30 I used 883 gears so I went to 4th. She was way past peak torque in 3rd. Even a 45t rear, 22t front was too "short".

nitrosportster 2nd March 2006, 06:40 Here is my best timeslip from last year, the guy in the other lane was a busa. The bike is stock wheelbase, foot shifted,no wheelie bar and a street tire.
nitrosportster 2nd March 2006, 06:44 Sorry about the post, I was in the right lane and ran a 10.16 e.t.
Jeffytune 2nd March 2006, 07:40 Man, that is faster then i want, nice kill on a that Busa.
hawaiian 4th March 2006, 00:33 nice run...one day my bike will be that fast...one day.
883 custom 4th March 2006, 00:52 Hawaiian, nice time slip. The altered in the other was obviously throttle stopping it, which is common to slow the et and run huge mph. Maybe trying to get in a slower class.
RedRider 4th March 2006, 01:07 Sorry about the post, I was in the right lane and ran a 10.16 e.t.
Very nice!
Not too many Sportys will walk by a 'Busa in the quarter, but yours did.
Congrats on the great ET!

thanks...
but he actually did have a fuel problem...he beat me off of the line and I passed him as his engine sputtered...this was just track night...not a "real race"...my buddy in the stands told me the guy was able to use the momentum of the car to restart it and scare the you know what out of me when he passed me at 150mph right after the line.
he was running high 8s all night until he trembled in fear at the lava red iron horse lined up in the spectator lane... (yeah right) :roflblack
redrider you ever run the quarter with your bike?.... i'm running the .575s / 3" hurricane / SE ignition / supertrapp 2:1 and the fastest i've gone is 12.9+ at 102mph with a 1.9+ 60'...

Hey...WHO ARE YOU???
Was that your 4 pages in AI? !0.16 street legal...there was a story of a fast sporty and flash winner in AI..the story has me pumped about making it to a flash race this year on my sporty.
I have been rebuilding to be ready for an attempt at a 9 second run up here in canada, and I would like to make the flash race in sturgis, but it is the day before a race in edmonton ,about a thousand hours away...so If the points race for our cmdra season is tight I will not be making it.
I can not get at my time slips...its snowing huge and Its too cold tonight to gop out to the shed, but I have one from an 1/8th mile race.
shoei 9th March 2006, 06:08 Congradulations Nitrosportster ! I loved the article in American Iron magazine. Keep putting them on the trailer. Sportsters rule
nitrosportster 9th March 2006, 07:21 Yeah that was my sporty in the feb issue of AI. My name is John weisz. I didn't make it to the sturgis FLASH race i only raced the iowa race. I don't think they are racing in stugis this year they are going to have a FLASH series this year with 3 events so far in maple grove, rockingham,MIR, and maybe one in florida. Check out AMDRAGS web site for details. The sturgis race is only 1/8 mile. If you can make a race i highly recommend it. I like the rules except that v-rods are allowed in and if any of them come over from AHDRA they pretty much will take over. Congrat's on your campionship narly, good luck this year. I got to give most of the credit to Terry Reed of Reed Racing Engines the guy build's the BEST HEADS AND ENGINES! I hope to get in the 9's this year too.
Narley 9th March 2006, 17:12 the only race close enough to the west coast is the sturgis one. Its only an 1/8th? Didnt know that.
RedRider 9th March 2006, 20:24 redrider you ever run the quarter with your bike?.... i'm running the .575s / 3" hurricane / SE ignition / supertrapp 2:1 and the fastest i've gone is 12.9+ at 102mph with a 1.9+ 60'...
No, I haven't been to the strip with it yet.
I'll probably make a few runs this year just for fun.
If I can get my launch technique refined, I am hoping for mid 12's. Time will tell.
I'm still trying to get my jetting tweaked in after my cam installation. I'll be ready by spring though...
BTW, is that an altitude-corrected ET you posted?
hawaiian 9th March 2006, 22:12 No, I haven't been to the strip with it yet.

nope...but the track that i race at is pretty close to sea level...
i just weigh about 230 lbs. i think my weight and my inexperience are helping to keep my times down :banana
it's just fun to run faster than my noob sportbike buddies when they hit the track for the first time...

Yeah, I'm no light-weight either at 215 lbs, and this will probably slow the bike down a bit compared to a dude weighing 140 or so....
I'm hoping to get my launches good enough to make some good 60' times; that's where you start to bring down the ET's.
Are you shifting with the clutch or without? Clutchless shifting should shave several tenths off an ET compared to using the clutch.
hawaiian 10th March 2006, 07:44 i've been pulling the clutch to shift...i only shift 2x though...
i need some gearing...
practice your burnouts...they help you to launch better :)
Narley 11th March 2006, 17:36 Nitro , well way to go, thats great press for one race. i think thats must have been fantastic. The flash race seems to be what I want to do, however there are none that I can make this year. They conflict with my Canadain schedule. Your bike seems very fast and very simple...thats perfection around here. I have raced other stock chassis xl bikes claiming to be down below 400 lbs? Pm me back with your bikes weight. Mine is 480 lbs race ready.
I also will repost that time slip and today the sun is out so I may find some more.
Hope to meet ya one day and swap stories...then hit the tarck beside ya...sorry but at that time my montra will begin-dont take it personally -I say it quietly enough so no one hears it. WHO IS YOUR DADDY>>>>WHO IS YOUR DADDY>>>> :) :roflblack
Ha , its funny ,but it gets me to the mindset I need and then thats it...its over and I am a nice guy again....

hawaiian 11th March 2006, 21:23 after running a personal best last night...i tried shifting without the clutch and I topped the previous run...lowered my ET about .2 from 2 weeks ago...I think mid 12s are definitely doable with my current set up...i'm at 12.79 right now.
speaking of canadians i met a fellow sportster rider visting from alberta at the track last night...had a great chat with him...sportster owners are everywhere.
nitrosportster 13th March 2006, 18:20 Hey Narley
That sounds good to me I'll race anyone just take off your wheelie bar and slick and lets race. When the AHDRA comes to norwalk I try to get paired with all the hotstreet bikes and 124 s+s bikes on fridays test and tune night. It feels awsome when you beat them and they have to take a double look at my sleeper of a sportster. I don't take anything personal I get along with anybody so win or lose its all good. The more trash they talk the more it pumps me up.

Congrats on the ET, man! Sounds like the clutchless shifting is helping.
What was your 60' time on that run?

The wheelie bar and slick...yeah. This year was supposed to present a great new challenge. I was going to run our supergas 10.2 class with no bars, but they changed the class to 9.9 and I dont know if I can be there without bars....I will have time to practice in advance of the season opener up here in JUNE.
hmmmm. maybe there is a chance we could meet. hot street! never thought of that. a 10.2 would win that class??? let me check...
there were some 10 ones and some 10 zeros. thats a thought. I was planning on making vegas for the year end.
I may also make
Seattle, WA June 24th & 25th -OKAY
Woodburn, OR August 26th & 27th
nitrosportster 14th March 2006, 05:17 I don't race in Hot Street i just try to race them on friday test and tune cause my bike doesn't meet the rules of Hot Street. I race in 10.3 and 10.9 index class. I live in ohio so i don't make it to any west coast races plus without any sponsors i don't make it to very many races. I plan on going to all the FLASH races and when the AHDRA and PROSTAR come to norwalk ,ohio it's only 20 min from my house.
Narley 14th March 2006, 23:21 when is the sturgis race? I cant recall. Sturgis is a week long. there is an ahdra on the first sat and sunday.
nitrosportster 15th March 2006, 04:46 I am not going to the AHDRA sturgis race its to far away. Limited budget and vacation keep me from traveling very much.
hawaiian 18th March 2006, 04:53 Congrats on the ET, man! Sounds like the clutchless shifting is helping.
What was your 60' time on that run?
thanks for the congrats and the tip...
my 60' was about 1.927 on that run...
i got it down to 1.893 on a separate run
i'm installing the SE 42mm Mikuni next week...
I'll let you know if it improves my times or not.

I thought there was a sturgis flash race at the end of the sturgis bike week?
nitrosportster 18th March 2006, 20:19 If they are having one its not a points race, so i won't be going to it plus stugis is only 1/8 mile.
