Well, today was day one for my buddy's rebuild of the chopper he purchased last year. It was the intention of him to "modify" it some more this past winter, however a small wreck caused us to change the modify to a rebuild. After "fighting" with insurance company some we finally got a go ahead and now the project is on "rush" for the May bike rally in Myrtle Beach. Today was the tear down...

Had a few beers and pretty much removed anything that we deamed replaceable.

We can't wait either. Hopefully there isn't anything wrong with the engine... If there is something wrong, then it will a very short rebuild...

Well, we got the replacement cam cover in. Got it off eBay and got a real good deal. We hope it fits, the auctions said that it was for a 91 model, but the part number had the -98 on it so we were a bit leary about it working. Going to find out this weekend...

Good Luck with your rebuild. I cant wait to see some pictures of the progress you guys are making. It fun to watch a bike evolve as the build progresses.

The cam cover we got off eBay fits and when he looked at the cams, all is good. Took it to the new home down in Lakecity, SC where it will "live" and get reborn this weekend. Got the list so now off to market to get the parts, when $$$ comes in.

Been about a week or so, we got most of the parts ordered the other day. Looking into a springer front end, but want to wait till the wheels come in so we can get some "proper" measurements for it. Ordered more parts than I can remember so I'll try to snap off a few photos when they come in...

One thing we need to look for is a spring seat. Any suggestions on where to look?

Well, have had a few setbacks, but I believe all the parts (except the springer frontend) have been ordered and have come in. Now the fun part comes in and we can get to the garage where the bike is to mock it up and fabricate any part we need to. Got to make the time. The spring rally in Myrtle Beach is a no go for the bike, but he decided that it needed to be done right and not rushed.

We went down to Charleston for the Heritage Bike Rally there and he did get to see some of the parts he has ordered on bikes so it was pretty exciting. The rally on Sunday was slow and not a lot of people at the fairgrounds, but I am sure that it will pick up. Until next time.

Well, parts have been coming in and getting ready to do a mock up. Ordered the sprinter frontend on Saturday and it should be in tomorrow or something this week. Also, got the new brakes, rotors, sprokets, and some minor items. For the seat he is going with a Lepera spring seat with 5 inch springs, 60 spoke chrome wheels.

Wont be ready for the spring rally, but shortly after that...

You got a springer? *sniffle* I knew you said you were going to get one, but actually seeing it just makes me want one that much more!!

How long is that front end? I'm guessing it's just because I'm only seeing pictures and not the live thing, but it looks like it's a little short for that frame. Once you get everything assembled, please let me know how she rides. I absolutely love springer fronts, but at present it's not quite in the budget. Until that magical day, I'll just have to sit hear and drool over yours!

He did the measurements and it is going to be 6 over stock, that is if I remember correctly...

He went with the Nighmarz exhaust, going to wrap them in grey muffler heat wrap.

Well, Joe (my friend who is rebuilding his bike) got too anxious and went out and bought himself a Buell Thunderbold S3 this week. Going to finish the rebuild and then try and sell it during the fall bike rally in Myrtle Beach...

The wife broke the camera so no pics for sometime...

Where did you get the springer front end from?

Okay, after a long, aggreivating, frustrated, joyful, painful journey my friend and I finally got his bike back together. The last few days have been the worse as we were able to "see" the light at the end of the tunnel, but there were setbacks. We tried to bleed the brakes and after hours of trying with no luck we found out that the banjo bolts and connections were wrong. Got them fixed easily. Then there was the wiring for the brake light, kept catching on fire, found out that the light was bad and got that fixed. Got it started and noticed that oil was "pouring" out on the pavement, found out that there were two tubes we forgot to attach and clamp down. (it didn't leak when we put oil in). There are still some minor issues that we are working out, but it does start and runs... also, this this is LOAD..... probably the loudest bike I have heard and just standing next to it while it was idling, the floor of his garage was shaking. He is working on the baffles for it and hopes that it will pass inspection for a custom bike so he can title/insure it.

He goes back and forth about it. He knows he needs to figure out to quieten them down, they will shake the fillins from your teeth...
