Andy semjpm 7th March 2006, 05:10 Really can't advise with any certainty unless you can give some specs on type of lights, current draw and model/year. SEMJPM justdrew 22nd March 2006, 18:03 This is another passing lamp question for any wiring gurus.... I've got an '03 XLH and I'm looking to splice the 2 35 watt lights into the white with black stripe wire (12V when key is in IGN position and engine switch is on) that goes to the coil/selenoid/Timingplate. I cut the seleniod connector, and the wire right there make for a perfect position to splice in. Beats the heck out of going all the way back and cutting into the orange w/ white stripe acc wire. Andy Like semjpm said, it has a lot to do with the amps the added lights will draw. You don't want to draw too much current through the original wire as it will blow the fuse and/or smoke the wire. When I installed my aux lights, it came with a relay that used the B+ under the seat for the main feed. I think you're pretty much stuck with using that. I don't think you'll want to fight your coil for power or overtax that wire... cantolina 22nd March 2006, 18:31 Remember that the Sporty only has 22 available amps.....you can't upgrade that.... That being said, you would be well-advised to wire them as instructed... cadiero 23rd March 2006, 01:22 Remember that the Sporty only has 22 available amps.....you can't upgrade that.... To the Buell 38 amp system to be exact. cantolina 23rd March 2006, 01:26 Actually, I've been looking into that. You can upgrade! To the Buell 38 amp system to be exact. Got aq link? I'm REALLY interested in that.... The dealership was no help.... justdrew 23rd March 2006, 16:45 I would be very interested in that Buell part! Anyhow, that above point about not wanting to fight the coil for power made a lot of sence when I thought about it :doh I wound up routing them back to the acc orange/white wire heading back to the brake light block. On the domestic bikes, I dont think there's anything back there pulling from that circuit. Now with a bit more wattage, I could move up to 55 watt passing lamps. That would rock! cantolina 23rd March 2006, 18:22 I would be very interested in that Buell part! I have the Moco's 55w set, and I love them! BUT, I DO need to watch my charging system... Where's that damned link?!?!??! :laugh justdrew 23rd March 2006, 18:23 Has anyone seen the link? Where's that confounded link? pardon my Zepplin moment:D cantolina 23rd March 2006, 18:37 Actually, I've been looking into that. You can upgrade! To the Buell 38 amp system to be exact. Just got off the phone with American Buell in the Buffalo, NY area...I asked them about this very thing... After some time on hold, and a cool discussion with the service manager there, there apprently IS NO 38 amp stator on a Buell :( Which makes sense, when you think about it, because even with EFI, what would a Sport-bike like a Buell need with that much juice? If you have contrary information, cadiero, please share..... PLEASE!!!! :) cadiero 24th March 2006, 02:18 Okay right on the Buell website it says it is a 38 Amp 3 phase alternator. Brett Donahue from Sauk Rapids, MN of Donahue Harley Davidson ran an '04 Sportster in the '05 Iron Butt Rally. Here is the link http://www.donahuehd.com/?05ibr&PHPSESSID=2f619850d4d7cd51b74af388e825eb21 I have been in contact with him, he is a really nice guy. He is the one who helped me with this. The bike in that link has the 38 Amp charging system. Just call him he will sell you the parts! If it worked for him it will work for you. I havn't done it yet, but I will. I plan to upgrade my Sportster and my Wide Glide. The 38 Amp thing is a possibility you just need to have some electrical capabilities. cantolina 24th March 2006, 02:39 Okay right on the Buell website it says it is a 38 Amp 3 phase alternator. I am an accomplished electrician, I just needed to know who knew about this mod... Thank you very much for the link.... :urock cadiero 24th March 2006, 07:45 Hey no problem, give Brett the credit. He is the guy who ran our favorite bike in the Iron Butt Rally. If you got the chance give him a shout and support his dealership. we could all learn a few things from him |
