Got a XL1200s -96 with SE kit. HAve read about adding different cams and ignition to get even more hp out of it. Does this makes a big different and is it hard to do it myself?

A bit of headwork by someone who knows what they're doing coupled with a set of N4 cams and a decent exhaust such as a Supertrapp and you wont recognise it... Give your barrels a rebore to suit a new set of flat top pistons while you're at it and ya good ta go.. If you have a reasonable mechanical aptitude you should be able to do it yourself There's not much HP in the ignition as you can still adjust total advance with the hall sensor on that model saltman241 7th March 2006, 10:13 Definetly don't just do cams. I did and all it really did was move the power farther up in RPM's. While it definetly pulls harder from 3grand to the rev limiter there's a lot more to be gained from the suggestions Steveo mentioned. I'm saving up myself right now to get my heads and barrels done. Had I to do it all over again I'd have just waited and done it all at one time. I had never worked on a v-twin before in my life but with a couple manuals and some help from the boys on here it was pretty cut and dry. Well other than missing the wiring harness that attaches to the back of the battery tray on re-assemble that is. Still won't let my dad live that one down since he put it back in! |
