View Full Version : Daytona Dyno
cjburr 8th March 2006, 04:21 I had my bike dyno'd Sunday to see where my A/F was at. The bike was running real well and I didn't think it would need much tuning. Stevo's Jetting 101 got me to where I was with the tune and it turned out all I needed was a 1/4 turn on the mixture screw to have the bike spot on.:clap :clap :clap :clap
Final results were 49.86 HP/ 48.83 Torque. The torque curve is quite nice, the V&H shortshot staggereds showed no signs of reversion and seem to work quite well with the Forcewinder A/C.

lagerdrinker 8th March 2006, 04:46 any stock runs?
is that a full dynojetkit or just slow and main with spaced needle?
torque is impresssive, just flat across
cjburr 8th March 2006, 04:59 Just changed the jets to a 45 Slow and a 180 Main and tweaked the mixture to 2 1/4 out. I love that torque curve also, the shortshot staggereds seem to be a well designed set of pipes, at least at the 883 power level. The Forcewinder appears to be a good match to the pipes also.
I haven't played with a carb since A&P school on aircraft and the Jetting 101 is an excellent tool to help with the tuning process.
Many thanks to Stevo and StargateOps for their threads. :clap :clap :clap

jetting101 is the dillyo
Bill2 8th March 2006, 16:25 Your hp and torque look good but what is your a/f i can't see it to small.
cjburr 8th March 2006, 22:47 That is just a fold in the paper Bill2. The dyno operator showed me the A/F on another screen shot and it was just about perfect till you got to 4800 RPM where it got a tad rich. He said with the Forcewinder I'd probably get a little ram air effect that he couldn't reproduce in the dyno trailer and the settings should be just fine on the road.
supercharger 10th March 2006, 14:23 Nice numbers.
When does the 1200 upgrade happen? :D
cjburr 10th March 2006, 17:44 After arjay blew me INTO the weeds, the conversion is looking like a real possibility.
edit by Stevo ..... I'm sorta hopin that Arjay didn't BLOW you IN the weeds ;)
Thanks for the edit Stevo:roflblack :roflblack :roflblack
arjay 10th March 2006, 21:37 Almost came down your way again today CJ. I had some service issues on the 4-wheeler and needed to change the oil on the sporty. I'm still having carb farts though. I may have to get a BT w Fuel Injection :( I guess. Glad to hear yours is running so well and I do wish that had been the cure for mine. He left the large bolts holding the backing plate of the big sucker to the jugs loose too. Noticed oil seeping and found them only finger tight.
When are those midgets rasslin' agin?! I might have to come on down tomorrow!

kdarejr 10th March 2006, 22:06 those numbers are impressive !!! where do you have your needle set at i am hoping to get my 2001 883 to be as good as yours !!!! so please let me know where your needle is set so i can try to get close before my dyno run !!!! thanks
cjburr 10th March 2006, 22:34 kdarejr, I didn't mess with the needle at all, just the jets. Remember though, each bike is different, so I wouldn't guarantee yours will behave exactly like mine. Just use the jetting 101 thread and make small changes then test. It took me awhile before I felt the bike was running right, so don't get discouraged if it takes a little while before things are right.
I'm no expert on this subject so if you run into problems just post them, someone here will help you out. Hopefully my post will get you close to start with. :D :D :D
Good Luck, Chris
kdarejr 10th March 2006, 22:45 i have spent hours reading jetting 101 and it seems to run better with the jets i have and i am waiting for the hp baffels to show up it feels good all over but seems a little sluggish off the line i hate to put the baffels in but from what i am reading it needs it i just hope its not going to be too quiet but i dont want it real loud either !! and thanks for your reply !!!!
cjburr 10th March 2006, 23:52 From everything I have read it's those drag pipes that are killing your low end. Thats one of the reasons I put mine on the dyno, to see if the shortshot staggereds had any reversion problems. According to the curves of my torque and horsepower they don't :smoke :smoke :smoke
I'm not sure how they would respond to the higher horsepower levels of a 1200 or bigger. I recall reading somewhere that as your power increases any problems presented by the pipe design will become magnified.
After riding around with arjay, seajay and Jesse_Bolt this week with them on their 1200 stock, 1200 with stage 2 heads, and 1212 with stage 2 heads :gun :gun respectively, I believe I am going to find out real soon if this is true.:roflblack :roflblack
NRHS Sales 11th March 2006, 00:05 CJ,
You might want to edit post #6. Arjay might get upset. That is unless his favorite movie is Brokeback Mountain!! ;)
kdarejr 11th March 2006, 00:14 i agree about the drag pipes so monday i am installing hp krowmworks baffels and for now i installed the 4" mini baffels !! its funny the wifes 1200 C runs great with drag pipes and lollie pops !! cant figure it out so what pipes and breather are you running ????? i am impressd with the numbers you got on the dyno !!!
cjburr 11th March 2006, 02:33 Look at my sig at the bottom of this post and good luck!!
cjburr 11th March 2006, 02:38 oops :doh :doh :doh :doh :doh Stevo took care of it for me, thanks.
cjburr 11th March 2006, 02:44 kdarejr, my sig dissappeared :doh it's at the top of this page, I hope:rolleyes:
Ralph 11th March 2006, 14:44 Picked up "Pearl" from the local indy, Hog Alley, last night where they did a re-jet and put her on the dyno. Got a good increase in both torque and horsepower. :banana
The Set Up
NRHS Hurricane Flow AC
No Hassle Jet Kit
V & H Shortshots Staggered
Results
Max. STD Torque -- 75.4
Max. STD Horsepower -- 74.0
I'll try to figure out, with the wife's help of course, how to scan the dyno printout and post it so I can get the thoughts of those more experienced than I. I'll also post a new pic.
Ken, the mechanic/tech, was pretty impressed with the whole set up; especially the Shortshots and the Hurricane.
Looks like a steady gain in HP where it peaked out at 74 at 6K rpm which is where Ken shut her down.
Also, the torque curve is one that makes for fun ridin'. Starts at about 31 at 2K RPM. Jumps up to about 68 at 2.5K RPM when Ken blipped the throttle and then gradually climbs pretty much all the way thru about 5K RPM where it starts to fall off. Looks like the maximum torque, 75.4, is right at 4.5K RPM and stays close to that to about 5K RPM where it starts to fall. At 5.5K RPM its still at about 69 and at 6K RPM, where he shuts it down, its at about 64.
More power. Runs great. Sounds awesome. I'm happier than a dog with two tails. :banapart
The weather's great and I'm hooking up with a bud this morning who just completed the Stage 1 on his 1200C. He went with the V & H Straightshot Slipons which sound great too.
If you hear some rumbling in the Hill Country this morning, it might be us. :tour
