View Full Version : Face Shield Defogger - Help me
Dweezil 4th February 2005, 16:04 I rode the bike to work today (32 degrees)...and had a big problem with my new faceshield fogging up. I understand that there's some kinda crap called...well..."Cat Crap" that supposedly works really well for keeping one's visor from fogging. However, I am at work and as such, have no cat crap. I do, however, have access to some dishwashing liquid. How well does the drop of dishwashing liquid work? And, do you just put a drop on, and rub it in, or do you actually wash the shield in dishwater, or what?
Wardog 4th February 2005, 16:08 I have heard it said that divers use saliva(spit) to keep their mask from fogging up while underwater. That may help you in the short term. I usualy just crack my face shield just enough to get cooler air to flow and that works for me. :tour
Dweezil 4th February 2005, 16:23 Yeah, I knew about the ol' spit trick...but I don't want the inside of my helmet to smell like old spit. lol I just cracked the visor a bit on the way in, and it helped...but I'm looking for perfection here people! :wonderlan
Lostwheel 4th February 2005, 17:38 Try "Rain X".Real light and make sure you use non abrasive cloth or rag to wipe off.Don't need a whole lot.Couple light coats should help.
Dweezil 4th February 2005, 23:36 Is that stuff really ok to put on plastic? For today, I wound up using a couple of dabs of dishwashing liquid, then buffed it off. Seems to have worked pretty good. Thanks

gordy 5th February 2005, 02:11 get a fog city visor insert I found its the only thing that works 100% of the time and its a cheap fix that lasts for years, they now have light reactive inserts as well
marco883 5th February 2005, 02:32 Gordy's right on. Fog City http://www.helmetharbor.com/fogcity/fogcityinfopage.htm it works the best and not much $$.
Dweezil 8th February 2005, 14:55 Thanks guys...I think I'm going to try the Fogcity approach. :dankesign
crackermank 8th February 2005, 15:04 Fog city-The adhesive is real aggresive and if you clean your visor well it will stick but leave a ring if you take it out that is a pita to clean. I don't know about the fog city- tried it and ended up good during the day, but with halos around any lights at night. Got so bad that I ripped it out in a parking lot during an evening ride. Good luck.
bplinson 8th February 2005, 15:14 Try some toothpaste. Just rub it on and then wash it off.
dave 8th February 2005, 21:06 Cat Crap (as mentioned earlier) is supposed to be very good. They carry it at REI (I'm gonna pick up some today)....
Shark Doctor 8th February 2005, 22:04 I spend huge amounts of time underwater and use a substance marketed under many names but usually "No Fog" or "Anti-Fog." It works on masks and camera housings where fog is a show stopper (literally!!!). It can be found at any dive shop.
I would stay away from toothpaste. It is abrasive and can scratch many plastics, perhaps including visors. (Though I haven't tried it there, I have used it like "Simi-Chrome" as a final polishing abrasive for metal scratches!)

Ummmmmmmmmmmm..... have you noted the handle? Kenny can have his bass minnows! And, Will, I need the Sporty to get AWAY from them if everything else goes wrong! MY Sporty is the "SportDiver" limited edition. It comes in aqua blue and has a sealed ignition.

I wear glasses (plastic lenses) and have used and still do use toothpaste to clean my glasses and plastic sunglasses when they get very dirt, it even will take out minor scratches. :clap all visors Have to be made from polycarbonate, that is very resistant.
go-n-postl 20th February 2005, 12:52 I could never get the detergent trick to work so i went around to the different dealerships. I finally got a cloth from the Honda dealer with the anti- fog impregnated into it. you just have to breathe on the visor then wipe with the cloth. It works great and I think it cost all of $2- tim f
klown 24th February 2005, 19:23 I've got this stuff called extreme rage fogzero, it is marketed for paintball masks, this stuff works really well for me. It costs about $15 at your local paintball place.
