I replaced my tail light of a laydown version. Along with it I had to purchase a LED light... anyway, installed and drove - now noticed that the LED is flickering, and only 1/2 on... installed a regular bulb today - it wouldn't light, on/off back and forth...

Unplugged the harness from the board... lots of grease... LED still flickers. I have ordered the Kuryakyn laydown LED complete replacement.

So, think the Kuryakyn will fix this? Maybe the harness is bad?

Is there any easy things I can do before I get the Kuryakyn to try and fix the problem???

Thanks for any input!

Does it happen with when engaging the front or back brake? Or both?

I have had 2 different red LED bulbs in my smoke colored layback tail lense. None of them were bright enough when the brakes are applied. Finally bought a red standard type 3157 bulb (not a red painted bulb, but red glass). Works great and is bright.

I found that if the LED don't work, just turn it around the other way and it works.

The only place I have found these bulbs is Pep Boys. It's in the section that sells those cheap aftermarket driving lights, etc.

It's called 3A Racing "Color Glass Bulbs" (distributed by American Auto Accessories). P/N on the package is 47-63151

2 in a pack for $7.00

Bert, its pulsing all the time, and now when I pull the brake I'm getting very little change at all.

The LED is circular and has around 8 - 12 led lights... only the top 4 are on - and they pulse/flash!

Smokermikes bike was doing the same thing, and we unplugged his harness and took a bit of the grease away, and replugged and it worked. Thats gonna be my starting point today, gonna take everything out, unplug it all and reconnect it....

Turbota, I know about turning the light around, and it is installed the right way. Its just not... lol, working. :D

Anyway, thanks... I'll post what happens when I play with the plug and harness...

Do you guys think when I get the Kuryakyn that it will fix the problem? With this:

I'm assuming that this light plugs into the backplate of the motorcycle, not the HD wire harness... if thats the case I bet it will work fine...

Thanks.

Have you tried hooking the light directly to your battery or a 12 volt charger? Whenever I get new lights, I get out the alligator clips and touch the leads to a 12 volt source to make sure its working like it should before I put it on the bike. That way you'll know if the probem is in the light itself.

Tying the lamp/LEDs directly to the battery is a great start. This will tell you if the lamp/LEDs are good.

If they work properly at the battery bust out your volt meter and check the wires that control the brake light for proper voltage.

A while back I installed a flasher module into my brake light and it worked for about a week and then stopped for no reason. I found out that you can't just ground to the fender, you have to splice into one of the negative lines that are run to the brake light assembly. This gives you a solid negative connection into the electrical system.

You could also check at the switch to make sure you are getting a good contact.
