Hello all,
I have got a HD tach kit off Ebay which is discribed as being from a 2005 bike, however I do not have any instructions or wiring with it, does anyone know if the wiring is the same for 05 and 06 bikes in which case I can hopefully buy just the wiring from a dealer or alternativley can someone with a 2005 fitted with a HD tach kit let me know which wire goes in to which position on the plug that goes in to the back of the tach, the part number of the plug and where they conect to in the electrics, I think there will be a switched positive, a ground and a signal wire,
All help and advice is most welcome

Chris,
Many thanks for both the welcome and the advice, do you or does anyone else know if there is a part number for just the wiring and plugs that come with the tach kit?

First of all, welcome to the forum Steve!

I installed a tach on my 883L. Link below:

The install is just plug and play. Just pressing connectors together, no guesswork. If you need the instructions, I think I still have them. Let me know if you need them.

Ouch!
I have learnt a lesson here, the Tach kit is available in UK for £215 incl tax. I got the kit for £156 off Ebay, minus the wiring, and thought I had a bargain until I ordered the wiring from the dealer today, £120 plus tax (17.5% in UK) I am out of pocket to the tune of £82, about $140, Oh well I live and learn, just as well I really love this bike, hope the wife does not see this!

I learned a long time ago to hide new parts/receipts for the bike!!!

Good luck with your tach. :)

Well the wiring has arrived and been fitted and everything works as it should so I am now happy, however anyone who knows their way around a souldering iron could save themselves lots of money. with the plug installed in the tach taking the top left position as pin 1 and the bottom right position as pin 12 the wiring is as follows
pin 1 is orange
pin 2 is green with purple strip
pin 5 is brown with blue strip
pin 6 is orange with white strip
pin 7 is black, (there are several black wires so I tested with my multi meter and this needs to be spliced to the black wire on the speedo plug)

Hope this is of use to anyone who like myself manages to get a HD tach to add to there sportster, I think, but am not certain this will apply to 04-06 bikes.

Glad you got your tach installed. And thanks for posting that wiring info. It may be of help to someone down the road.
