Here is a quick peek at what I've been up to this winter. I had a ton of parts left over from my last "project", so i decided that i would put them to good use and build another sportster. This time, in an effort to avoid the cost overruns that i experienced with my last project, I made a vow to get ALL the parts for this project exclusively on EBAY. I am not in a real hurry to get it done, so the time/availability issue isnt usually a problem. So far it seems like the whole thing is coming together pretty nicely. I managed to scab the tank together with leftovers, made up a set of shock extenders, made a new belt guard, tricked out the front fender, mounted an 04 dyna wheel on the 97 front end, added a set of clip-ons, made a fairing stay and bracketry for the front fairing, and am in the process of making a "chest" fairing to complete the "sport" look. At this stage of the game, it's about 50% complete. I will post more pics as the project progresses.

Not my "style" of bike, but what you've done look cool. I think the expanded sheet metal is kinda neat! That combination of wheels looks good, too. Tough looking bike!

looks pretty cool. one question though. won't that front spoiler/fairing going down the down tubes take away some of the air you will need to cool down the engine?

excellent observation.........yes it will, i am actually in the process of adapting 2 cooling fans from an 04 yamaha r1 to move the necessary air over the motor. It makes me chuckle every time i hear em too, they sound like jet engines warming up. the chest fairing in the pictures is actually different than what's on the bike now, my partner and i thought it best to add some air foils to channel air through the fairing and help guide it around the cylinders on both sides.

I know exactly what u mean, headlight ass. is way too small. I'm gonna try to use an old smoked windshield from another fairing to make a proper windscreen on the top side of the fairing and get rid of the carbon fiber whale tail above the lights. If that turns out half way decent I think were gonna try to make an aluminum trim piece for the lower section of the fairing, sort of like a rolled "skirt" and let the tip come way down to a point somewhere around 2-3 inches below the "beak" of the fairing. For the last couple of days we been tryin to get everything situated with the shock extensions and get them finished up and ready for powder. I should have the headlights lookin beefier in a couple days.
