Well,

I just bought a K&N filter, some CycleShach slip-ons S/S, Accel plugs, and a re-jet kit from eBay...

I intend on doing the work for myself, and the rejetting is the only 'iffy' part of the project. There is a guy in Texas that sells some reasonably priced re-jetting kits and simple instructions on installation. Being the engineer-type (ME) and a beer-guzzling shade-tree mechanic not afraid of bolts, nuts and calling up the shop to bail me out, I'm thinking that slapping a K&N and new pipes on an Evo motor with a basic jet kit should not be rocket surgury (not like doing so with an '88 or 100 inch twin-cam FI motor).

My question is to those that paid the tax and did the work: is it as easy as it appears? I re-turbo'd my car routinly after overspinning turbos, and did other repair work, but that was on a MAS-controlled fuel circuit. Am I over-thinking stage oneing an Evo motor????

Also: is there some benefit to a Screaming Eagle coil and ignition module? My local Harley Mechanic said the money is better spent on Chrome to make my 2001 Sporty a better trade candidate for a big twin (he said dont even wast the time on stage one on a sporty: save the money for your big twin).

The last time I checked, I was not made of money, and the tree out back was producing pine needles and not 100.00 bills, so me and this sporty are stuck with each other. Other than pipes, plugs, filter, jets, what does S.E. coils and ignition module do for me????

Thankx, Bros!

yes, and yes
The hard part about it though is getting the mixture tuned just right. I think dyno tuning is the best route. I did it by ear, but got the mixture way too rich. Another option is with an air/fuel monitor.

As far as the SE coil and ignition module, if I understand it correctly, the main benifit you get is the ability to adjust advance (I think, I could be way off though.) I am sure someone more knowledgable will chime in.

Oh and make sure to read Jetting 101, that will help alot

rejeting and tuning the carb is a piece of cake.
I was very unsure about doing this part myself and was afraid of screwing up my ride.
With the help of some of these good folks and the Sportster page web site it was very simple.
do a search-there are some pretty good threads here to help guide the way.
