Hello,
I have been having alot of trouble getting my belt to run straight on a hardtail project. The belt will only roll off to the left into the tranny case when the wheel is centered. Now I have the wheel way over to the right side of the axle out of center and the belt stays on the front pulley but is riding on the left side of the rear. I figure I can just space out the pulley a little more to compensate. I just noticed that I might have one side of the axle slightly higher than the other. Would this create the same problem that I'm seeing? If the left side was 1/6" higher than the right, would the belt track to the left or right?

Thoughts?
Thanks

First off, welcome to the forum!! As far as the belt sliding off, I would think that the axle being at an angle would definitely not help. The front and rear pulley should be directly in line going front to back and at the same angle.

take a piece of string and wrap it around the front pulley and loop it ot the rear pulley. Make sure the string is centered front to back and all around the front pulley and that will tell you where the rear pulley needs to be to keep everything in line

Is there a chance you got the engine/trans not perfectly placed in the frame? Might take some shimming. Because if that is off, you are never going to get the rear one in line!

Hardtail project? If your having belt prolems something is out of line. I dont want to critisise anyone's work but alignment in a project like that is critical. If something is out of line the belt is the least of your worries compared to the steering and handling problems you will have. It should'nt be to difficult to fix but you do need to check that the trans output shaft and axle are parallel verticaly and horizontly and while your at it check their relationship to the steering stem.
