Just added SE air cleaner, SEII slip ons(temporary until they get the right exaust ordered, hopefully the third time will be the charm), re-jet on the stock carb, and for a little icing on top I went ahead and got the SE cams.
WoW!! What a difference compared to stock, well worth the month long wait
unless you count not having the exaust I want (Thunderheader) yet. Once that comes in the bike will be going back for a final dynotune. And then time for a long cold ride.

Austin-W,

Where are you going to get your Scoot Dyno'd at?? I'm outside of San Antonio and need a good place to Dyno my Scoot at!!!

What Sporty do you have?? Which cams did you put in?

Austin Harley-Davidson (the south store at the Onion Creek exit) has a new dyno.
I think they are charging 50 or 60$ for dyno runs. 2004 xl1200r. The cams are the "Sceaming Eagle Sportster Performance Cams" I think they are the only ones they have for the 04's right now.

After a few days riding and bouncing off of the rev-limiter more than a few times I was wondering what people felt the highest you could rev the 04 1200 engine in stock form would be. Also if anyone has any comments on the different brands of aftermarket ignitions that would be helpful as well. The new feel of the engine is nice but the ride to and from work in the rain today was an experience. For the first little bit I kept spinning the rear wheel shifting into second. Probaly freaked the people around me out seeing the bike trying to get sideways.

I have all the mods you do and I agree, baby has attitude now. I have not, however, ordered the same pipes. Have any pics?

I am still waiting on the Thunderheader, going to get the black ceramic coat finish.
But right now I do have the SEII slip on's they are loaning me until mine come in. I can take a picture but im not savvy on how to post it and all.

You can rev the stock 2004 1200 to 6000rpm, 7000rpm with the ignition module. That's pretty much as high as you would want to go, and 7000rpm is a bit high for my taste. I was thinking of putting the SE ignition module in my bike, but I'm not into revving the hell out of the motor, and I looked at a dyno of a bike that had one and I didn't see any real power gains (you probably would with the SE cams though).

Austin-W,

Nice to see some riders local to my area on here. I live off Slaughter LN on the west side. The dealer you refer to is where I bought my 2004 1200C back in June. Almost all of the fellas that work there have been great. I had not been by the place for a couple of months and then showed up last week and everyone there wanted to know why I was such a stranger.

On a side note, I worry about power loss with no crossover. I have the SEII slipons SE intake and new ignition, but I do want a louder more thunderous bike. The SEII's are great when you get on the throttle and sound pretty good at 75mph, but I really would like to set off a few more car alarms.

With the performance you seem to be seeking, what made you decide on the pipes you have on order?

Thanks a bunch!

I went with thunderheaders because:
1: Looks, I really like the 2 into 1 look as well as the general appearance of the exaust.
2: Sound, I've only heard the way they sound on BT's but what I heard I liked.
3: Peformance, from what I've reasearch they seem to be enough of a pipe for just about anything more I want to do to the engine when money permits.

My bike actually waits for me to get of work on Brodie just a little to the north of slaughter. I wish I could of stayed in South Austin but couldn't beat the price of a house in Bastrop plus I get at least 85 miles of riding in everyday.

Ok I know I am stepping on toes here, but Gary in UC will dyno your bike for ya, he is a racer, not just a metric dealer.....

I use a Twin tech TC88A and set the rev limiter at 6500. It is adjustable and setting 5-5 seems to work the best. An A/B test against a factory ignition noted a nice improvement in torque from 2800-4200rpm's. Well woth the money.

TxSporty, Yes, he's talking about Gary who owns the Sawakaki shop in UC...super nice guy...knows his racing...check him out for a possible dyno there!

TxSporty, SAwrecker's my brother! And your neighbor in Converse! Well, kinda...and not to fight with my bro, but Gary WAS a nice guy the last time I was down there...I guess people can change! Being surrounded by all those metrics through the years must've made him bitter! :laugh Tell your Uncle there to bring you in at night and make that run!!!! Early Xmas present!!!!

Planb,

OK, I guess you got him to check us out here!! Next thing you know he'll be buying a Sporty!! :yikes

I wish it would be that easy to get him to do that, but he doesn't have that kind of pull there..

I'm going to ride over there next Friday and talk to Gary and see if he can do a Dyno Run for me, If so I'll post the result here on the Forum.

Thunderheader finally came in and is on the bike. So, with the SE 551 cams, SE aircleaner, and Thunderheader it appears that I'm getting about 76ft-lbs torque at 4800rpm and 74hp at 5400rpm. At least thats the way the dynosheet looks its really not as clear as I would have expected but then again I wasn't able to be there while they did it to get the info I wanted. Very nice smooth pull now and the sound is well "mean". Time for research so I can plan my next purchase for power.
