Either the derby cover comes off or you can squeeze it into the inspection hole. Those are your only 2 choices.

It's easiest to go through the chain inspection hole, it's the smaller opening about 1.5" diameter with two screws. You will need a funnel to get it in there. Add exactly 28 ounces of oil (on late models) after you have drained the old oil out. You didn't ask about draining, but just to make sure... the old primary oil drains out through the plug near where the rubber bumper for you kick stand is.

Bert has a how-to video on this if you want to go through the derby cover. It's more complicated but it's easier to make sure you've got the level right. I think you have to be a premium member to get it though but I'm not sure.

When I first changed my 04 1200C primary fluid I first measured how much oil came out. I stood the bike up and let it all drain out. Happen to be 32oz. So I decided to just take off the primary chain inspection cover and add 1 qt Sport Trans Fluid. I've got over 19,000 miles on her now and change motor oil every 3k and tranny every 5k. I've had no problems with the bike but then I do my own work and know my bike real well. Buy the service manual and get to know your bike. You will save big $ and your bike will serve you well.

like gary said, ONLY add 28 oz not the full qt. like the manual calls for, I think thats for a completely dry trany. I think there is a couple of dips in the tranny that don't let all the fluid out when you drain it. the first time I did mine I added the whole qt. and ended up sucking out about 4 oz. used 28 ever since and she's right on.

Thanks for all the info. I drained the fluid and adjusted the primary chain, per manual, but I didn't see anything in there on where to put the new fluid in. I found a long funnel and put 28 oz. in through the inspection cover, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking a fill hole or something.
Anybody have any experience with the Hayden M6 tensioner? Sounds like a good idea.

I don't have any experience with one, but I remember reading an article in a magazine once that was pretty critical of them. Here's a few threads from people here:

And a one from the old site:

The 28 oz. worked perfect for me too, then one time I rocked over to the right side and got more fluid to come out. I went back and forth, 1 min right and 1 left, and got the other 4 oz. out. then it took the full 32 oz.
I like even numbers.
