View Full Version : 87" sporty
nitrosportster 3rd April 2006, 01:44 Here is the dyno sheet on my 87" sporty it made 131 h.p. and 110 lb torque yesterday. It makes 100lb of torque at 3800 rpm. The motor was built by Terry Reed. This motor has buell firestorm heads ported by terry that were built 4 years ago back when it was 74 cubic inches which i think makes these numbers pretty impressive. This is a street legal bike that i ride on the street and which i won the F.L.A.S.H race in iowa on. I plan on racing it in F.L.A.S.H class in AMDRAGS.
RedRider 3rd April 2006, 01:50 Beautiful, man!!
I bet it pulls like nobody's business.
Good luck in this years FLASH race.
Narley 3rd April 2006, 07:33 beauty Dave.
What did ya change???...new carb and ??
baddog32 3rd April 2006, 12:57 Awesome results! :clap
GRAYFEATHER 3rd April 2006, 13:03 That's very impressive very impressive in dead.
Grayfeather.
Great #s! was this on pump gas? with or without nos?
Normally aspirated?, what size make & model carb?
inquiring minds want to know :smoke
Narley 3rd April 2006, 22:12 I can answer most of that...
Pump gas naturally aspirated, no nos or any other brand of nitrous.
Mikuni 45 ???May be a new 48??
Predator 3rd April 2006, 23:33 Holy snappin assholes Batman....:yikes
nitrosportster 4th April 2006, 05:25 I put a 48 mm mikuni carb, new cam and a force pipe on it other than that its the same motor as last year. No NOS, just motor. I have to give all the credit to TERRY REED of REED RACING ENGINES 419-683-9257 the guy is just awsome. I am saving up my money to have him build me a set of killer heads. He also built the heads of joe perrys ahdra hot street sporty that he set a national record with.
Narley 4th April 2006, 05:40 48 and some 643? stepped header 2-1???This is gonna be interesting?
48 mik is in my future also....already have the 643 and exhaust.
hybriDatsun350 4th April 2006, 06:00 Crazy numbers!!! Ahh!!! :usa2
Am-hd 5th April 2006, 12:33 That is amazing , real good pull . Makes me wanted to do mine. Does it have reinforced cases etc.
nitrosportster 5th April 2006, 18:15 I am still using the stock cases with millenium cylinders. Hey NARLEY what do you mean by 643??
Bill2 5th April 2006, 20:26 Damn i was gonna say when you get those new killer heads and you'll be going sub 10's, but shit i just noticed you could get that now with a longer swingarm, wheeliebar, and air shifter. Terry must know sportster heads like the back of his hand! What city is he in?
nitrosportster 6th April 2006, 18:18 Yea terry can build any kind of head. He has built all motor 200+ hp busa's and twin cam motors like rick mcwaters that set national records in ama hot rod crusier a couple of years ago. that motor was 107 cu inchs and made 158 hp and over 140 lb torque using the stock heads that he highly modifed and the stock cases and stock jugs and stock bottom end. Terrys buddy J.D.Hord has a web site that has a dyno sheet on a 212 hp busa and ricks twin cam. Go to www.hordpower.com and go to dyno charts then go to 4-cylinders and crusiers and you will see those dyno sheets. J.D. Hord is a awsome engine builder too but he only works on sport twin's like ducati's,Hawks,rc-51 and sv's.Terry is from mansfield, ohio. His number is 419-683-9257. Give him a call.
Narley 8th April 2006, 05:14 redshift 643 cams.
nitrosportster 8th April 2006, 06:13 NO those are not the cams im using. I can't tell you guys everything
stevo 8th April 2006, 06:27 pretty decent numbers.....
Gettin close to what the guys at NHRS are putting out...
they're gettin 140 out of an 82" motor

Narley 8th April 2006, 07:47 yeah thats a helluva job on an 82 inch with the hotstreet limitations....gets me pumped about my new stage 8 std heads....:)
nitrosportster 8th April 2006, 08:02 Yea those are impressive numbers but like i said my heads were built 4 years ago back when the motor was 74 cu in. There heads were just built with im sure everything they have learned up to now. I know Terry has never stopped learning or improving on his heads and he's definatly has improved since my heads were built. As far as just reading into the h.p. numbers there are varibles to consider too, the conditions of that day, location of the dyno as far as sea level, and the dyno itself they all don't read exactly the same. Plus peak horse power numbers don't mean everything compare the graphs and you will see that mine has no dip in the power curve like theirs and builds more torque earlier than theirs. I didn't post my dyno chart to compare or knock NHRS or anybody else, im just proud of my numbers. We all have who we think is the best engine builder and im not knocking NHRS or anybody else but i think Terry Reed is the best and when someone tries to say or imply that he is inferior to NHRS or anybody else then i sure in hell will defend him.
aswracing 8th April 2006, 13:29 Guys guys guys ... it's apples to oranges. I appreciate the thought, but man, this guy did a hell of a good job, credit where it's due.
There's actually quite a bit of good motor technology that comes out of a handful of tuners in Ohio.
Nitro, CONGRATULATIONS!
nitrosportster 8th April 2006, 15:21 Thanks, I did mean that about your numbers they are impressive and you are right about apples and oranges, each motor was built for a differant purpose. If i over reacted i apololize, i just felt like he was disrespecting Terry. Good luck this year in all your racing.
Narley 8th April 2006, 17:22 Yea those are impressive numbers but like i said my heads were built 4 years ago back when the motor was 74 cu in. What I noticed about your curve is the peak hp is under 7 k rpms....I like that.
Narley 23rd May 2006, 06:19 Nitro ,my new heads are done....hoooowaaa.
We should compare notes soon.
Its tough for us racing our street rides....that compromises the builders directions and makes a greater challenge.
Wide power band and lower than startosphere hp peak are what we need.
The new mikuni 48 may go on at the same time, that I am not sure of yet. Have my first race in less than 2 weeks.
nitrosportster 31st May 2006, 18:15 Thats good to hear, sorry about not replying earlier i just now saw it. We can compare notes. I am leaving friday morning to go to rockingham nc for the flash race.Good luck at your race, what did your bike make with nos and without.
