View Full Version : Is Amsoil invisible??
Iain 5th April 2006, 17:02 I recently changed my oil using Amsoil synthetic and put in the prescribed amount into the oil tank. I recently went for a ride the other day, came back, checked the oil....but, for the life of me, I couldn't read the oil on the dipstick. I wiped the dipstick with a paper towel, and could see that oil was coming off, but I couldn't tell the 'level' cause the oil is so damn clear! I know this will likely fix itself once the oil dirties a bit, but I was just curious to see if anyone has experienced this.
Cheers!

Yeah that's the way one you put it in. It actually gets more black then the regular HD 20W50 once you change it. :smoke
RICOB1 6th April 2006, 00:40 Always clear for me too, after about 500 miles it will start to darken.
speedster 22nd April 2006, 08:31 Synthetic oil at its best! Tim
Lynk 22nd April 2006, 09:08 Hehe... that's why I keep my stock dipstick handy!
It's interesting that there are two different Amsoil threads going around tonight. I just picked up a half-case and a couple of filters. :D
OldFenderGuy 22nd April 2006, 17:14 I put in Amsoil 20W-50 MCF a few hundred miles ago and notice the same thing when checking the oil level.
It will 'darken up' with a little age, but right now it's very difficult to see the level on the dipstick. Almost have to hold the dipstick at just the right angle to see where the fluid level stops..
cutter 22nd April 2006, 17:24 I just take a paper towel and take the dip stick out and lay it on the towel and I can see where the level is. Works great for these old eyes. The oil marks the towel.
CntryFun 22nd April 2006, 18:15 Definitely the best oil I've ever used. I switched to it at 1k miles, and will never use anything else in my bike or quad.

MCF is actually the 10W-40, and it's in my signature. There's a newer 20W-50 formula called MCV, and it's in my signature too. AMV (the older formula 20W-50) is a fine product though and they are selling remaining stocks I imagine.

Oppps, my bad.....
I meant to type MCV instead of MCF... I'll have to blame that on my old keyboard, or my finger having a mind of it's own. :o

OK I been a dealer since the early 80s just so I could buy it with the discount :banana :banana How many people that ride bikes [or cars] that use it do you know of that actually have there oil tested?
Theres a lot of good amsoil being wasted because its not worn out and its not to dirty to do its job. The color does not mean a whole lot. I would make a wager that when most changes there amsoil theres more than 60% good usable life left in the oil AND remember Ams. guarentees your engine against oil related problems when you have it tested and they say its OK, Also the test can tell you an awful lot about whats happening in your engine.
