It could help, but mostly for the orange color which I think would complement my bike. ANy comments? Any one know of orange wires that are "good"...? daesdaemar 7th April 2006, 13:10 :bump :bump xl1200r 7th April 2006, 13:31 Generally when shopping for plug wires you want the widest ones you can get - for instance, all other things being equal - a 7mm wire is better than a 6mm, an 8mm is better than a 7mm, an 8.8mm is better than an 8mm, etc. A thicker plug wire means less restriction. There are also other things that can help with this, depending on what sheething and cores they use, but this is good starting point. My guess is that S.E. wires are nothing more than rebadged Accel wires, or some other big brand. Jt1200r 7th April 2006, 14:01 i have the orange wires they look ok they work i get spark mhamden 7th April 2006, 14:04 I have been told the screaming eagle wires work great, Turner I believe also makes a orange wire I got mine in black I know they have a variety of colors and they are 8mm wires. You can also check Sumax.com to see what is available. They are cut to your own length which is why I got them because my coil has been relocated because of the fat bob tank. xena 7th April 2006, 14:23 Alex I have these (http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.aspx?GID=62BF9E36-4447-4BB9-B674-21E671AC8239&search=plug%20wires&store=Harley&page=3) on my Sporty. They come in a variety of colors, they're 8mm, do their thing, and look great...kinda pricey though. renegade1 7th April 2006, 14:50 I installed Accel 8.8 black plug wires, replaced the Sreamin Eagle. The only thing I can say is the Accels are massive compared to the old Screamin Eagle. gusotto 7th April 2006, 16:15 I installed Accel 8.8 black plug wires, replaced the Sreamin Eagle. The only thing I can say is the Accels are massive compared to the old Screamin Eagle. The SE plug wires (8mm) are larger than the stock and the Accel plug wires (8.8) are larger than the SE. Accell has a longer and sturdier plug casing. $20.00 for Accel is money well spent. They also come in black or yellow. The stock wires against the Accel are puny in comparison. Also when I changed out the stock wires, I found the front plug wire was rusty and not making a good connection. Very noticeable after swapping to Accel. daesdaemar 7th April 2006, 16:50 OK guys... lots of good info... :) wabiker 7th April 2006, 17:39 I heard the red ones are faster. skratch 7th April 2006, 17:59 Alex I have these (http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.aspx?GID=62BF9E36-4447-4BB9-B674-21E671AC8239&search=plug%20wires&store=Harley&page=3) on my Sporty. (now having said that, they'll probably take a dump on me, good thing i kept the stock ones :p ) Shamdog 7th April 2006, 18:09 C'mon, Wa, EVERYONE knows that black is the fastest color. wabiker 7th April 2006, 18:47 Noooo... Black PAINT...Red wires....Chrome for less wind resistance. Didnt ya get the MEMO..???????? Jimbos883 7th April 2006, 18:56 Guys, how do those bigger wires fit into the stock coils? My understanding is that the hole for the wire is pretty close to the factory wire dia and going to a bigger dia wire makes it very important that you get the wire all the way into the coil to assure that you make the connection. In fact I've been told that it's very hard to get the wire installed into the coil. Or am I incorrect? skratch 8th April 2006, 01:55 its not the wire that fits into the coil tower, it is a crimp on end connector. a rubber bbot covers it all and keeps the elements out. opiewontaylor 8th April 2006, 09:48 The connectors are the same size, regardless of wire thickness. I use Accell 300+ 8.8's, very nice for around twenty bucks. Only come in black though. I almost got the Taylor-Sumax 10.4's, but that seemed like overkill. (plus, I'm way too cheap to spend $50 on 2 wires:) Red 8th April 2006, 10:35 I've been using Screamin' Eagle red wire for the twincam touring models. http://www.geocities.jp/red4bass/for_xlf/IMG_0850.JPG maddog 8th April 2006, 11:28 The SE plug wires (8mm) are larger than the stock and the Accel plug wires (8.8) are larger than the SE. I pack the coil boots and plug boots with Dielectric Grease before I put'em on. Waterproofs, prevents corrosion, and makes them easier to connect. I'm currently using Accel 8.8 yellow. Big D 8th April 2006, 11:43 Have orange S.E.'s on the Super. They contrast nicely with my paint 9cobalt pearl) They were on there when I got the bike... and they work. maddog 8th April 2006, 13:23 An interesting side note about plug wires. In "101 Harley Projects" by Kip Woodring and Kenna Love, they Dyno a whole passel of wires. The only ones that make HP are the NOLOGY HOT WIRES. They have a built in capacitor and separate ground wire. I didn't feel much difference over other quality wires. I read their directions more closely and found that they recommend you use special non-resistor plugs with the wires, BUT, those plugs are not compatable with my DYNA 2000 Single Fire Ignition. Wasted $80. |
