im replaceing the little square signal/marker lights on my 86 spotry. i bought a new used set of factory bullet type lights(not sure of bike they came off of. my origonal lights have those small push in bulbs new onew 1157's. my problem is old ones have 2 wires at light and new ones have a plug with 3 too each light. i assumed the black was the groung so i grounded it and hooked up the remaining 2 wires to my old 2 wires ground got hot and onkly 1 filement lit up. so i gave up. i was told that 1157's have to be wired differently that those little push in bulbs. any help on how to do it would br greatly appreciated.

thanks glenn

The bulbs with three wires are for the front where you have the turn signals/marker lights on full time. They get brighter when you turn on the turn signal, because power goes to asecond filament. If you put those on the back, which normally have one filament bulbs (two wires only, not three) then you are probably shorting out something. Turn signals/marker lights come in two kinds - three wire kinds and two wire kinds. You probably need to get the two wire ones. This is assuming you are installing these on the rear end. If you are installing on the front, then your original equipment lights should have three wires and you just splice each wire together as normal. Hope this helps.

wolfgang thanks for thee reply im installing the 3 wire lights in the front but the lights i have now in the front marker and signal only have 2 wires going to them. and my back blinkers only have 1 wire i think the little push in bulbs in the front work diffferently that the 1157's i want to put in.
