I've ordered stuff from Surdyke HD's website before, so I thought I knew what to expect. Pretty good prices, but fairly long delivery time. (No big deal, I can wait if it means saving a few bucks). I always liked the look of the '02 883r's blacked out "ham can", so I figured I'd order one. Surdyke's website said it was in stock. It also said it would ship March 24 (which was two weeks after I placed my order, but again, I'm used to the fact that fast delivery isn't their strong point). Estimated delivery time passes. Scheduled delivery time passes. No hamcan. I e-mail Surdyke, no reply. After several e-mails, and after 4 days, they respond, but only to tell me that the part is "obsolete". They never did have it in stock, and it was cancelled by their vendor. It took them 24 days, and repeated e-mails to inform me of that fact. They also tell me they will let me know by e-mail, when they get around to refunding my money. Now, am I being unfair to believe that Surdyke's absolutely sucks?

I placed an order with them on March 15th. Expected delivery about 2 weeks. Heard nothing, followed up and just been told the parts are backordered till early May. When I ordered the parts were supposedly in stock.
Good prices, but very slow and misleading info re availability.
Cheers,
Brett

Same Problems here with Surdyke. I switched to Zanotti's no Problems so far.

When I went to my dealership to order a black ham can, they told me it was obsolete too. But, they were also able to check other dealer's inventory and found one. They gave me the phone number, I called and got it the following week. I'd suggest talking to your local dealsership and see if they can do the same for you. I don't recall exactly but I think the cover was pretty inexpensive.

In their defense, I ordered the detachable sideplates and mid-rise backrest from them, and had no problems at all (ordered online). Prices were significantly lower than what was listed at the dealer, and they were HD original parts. Was able to track the shipment, and got delivery pretty much as promised. I've got them bookmarked in My Favorites, and will probably still do business with them in the future.

Just did a dealer locate search on that part here at work. (#29370-02) The only dealer that popped up was Alef's H-D in Wichita KS. I'm sure there are Lightspeed dealers that might have it in stock as well that don't show up.

Well, I don't blame Surdyke for not having the part (even though their website did say "in stock") or their really long order processing time. I just have the feeling if I hadn't persistently contacted them, that they didn't seem to think they had any obligation to inform me of anything. (Plus the fact that they charge your card immediately when you order, but refunds are at their leisure).

Well, you can always order from Zanotti. Great service and the discounted price is lower than Surdyke.

Has Zanotti's shipping prices go up??? I checked on a couple of parts, and the shipping was more than the parts.
Best Regards,
Norm

I have found with Zanottis that it is better to order a bunch of stuff at once if you can. Or order a high dollar item. I think about anything under $80-$90 you are better off to go to the local stealer as the shipping negates the discountm, and you will come about even paying MSRP and sales tax.

They also tell me they will let me know by e-mail, when they get around to refunding my money.
If you paid by credit card, file a charge back immediately with the Credit Card company. Keep all those emails too.
In many states its illegal not to refund immediately when you admit you never had something to sell that you took the funds for.
But Credit Card chargeback is fast and during the time its being investigated they will hold off Interest on those funds. do it.
