View Full Version : Shorter Risers, Brake Line Too Long...

Changed my 6" risers for 2" and now my front brake line is too long. I guess I have no choice but to replace it with a shorter line but in the meantime besides looking ugly, am I taking a risk riding at all with the flexible area of the brake line bending in a horizontal "S" shape? It's not crimped, just bent. Searched around the service manual, and other than explaining the proper way to install a new one and bleed the line, I don't see this specific info. This is the first time I've changed risers or anything on the bike and will be the first time I replace the brake line, and while I wait for the shorter line to arrive I'd like to take the new risers/bars for a test spin, unless the bend in the brake line is a big red flag.

The brakes feel fine as it is, but I haven't actually ridden the bike since the change and just want to know if this sounds like something that could cause the front brake to fail. Thanks.

I lowered the front of my bike by three inches. My front brake line is stock. Yeah it does bend back pretty far, but it is not hurting anything.

Just wanted to post a pic to double check... I'm taking the bike tomorrow to the indy mechanic to have a few things done, including a new brake line. This should be ok to ride to the mechanic on?

This is what the brake line looks like now. It makes me nervous being bent this way so I wanted to post a pic. The front brake's spongy now but I'm just going to ride the bike to the next town over to the mechanic so he can replace it with stainless.

Thanks for the replies.

On edit: lagerdrinker I just saw your brake line in pics in the gallery- I see what you mean, I feel better about it now. Thanks.
