View Full Version : '04 Sporty heads...how good?

I've been considering a wrench job on my Sporty in an effort to achieve some totally obscene power. I wanna jerk the front wheel off the road with no clutch trickery. OK, OK, maybe that's a little far fetched but I do want to make some good fun streetable juice. I was referred here 'cause I was complaining elsewhere that I couldn't find good info on performance for the new generation Sporties.

Realistically I would like to wind up in the 90's (preferrably upper) or so in HP and torque. Are the "high flow" heads that came stock on my Sporty enough for that or do I need to replace them? What about pistons and cams? Stock compression is 9.7:1 which I'm sure is an uncorrected number. I reckon I'll need mroe compression to get where I want to be?

Thanks for any guidance.

God bless,

G'day Bunnman

Have a look around the site... you'll find most of your questions will already be answered...

The '04 1200 heads flow around what the old Thunderstoms did BUT they've got improved flow characteristics and a better quench area...they make a great base for big numbers

Have a look at the NRHS section......

We have a couple of guys that have gone down the path you're heading already......

Talking to Aaron at NRHS would be the quickest and least expensive way to achieve the sort of performance you're talking about as they have the runs on the board and Aaron can sell you a complete set up to suit in one go... and can port your heads to suit....nothin beats lettin someone else do the hard yards of development..

First, welcome to the forum BunnMan. Drop by the into forum to introduce yourself.

Like Stevo has said there is a lot of really good information on the XB heads here. Do a search or visit the Conversions or NRHS - High Performance areas of the site.

Btw, I like your sig.

Great, thanks for the guidance. I gotta thank the fella that pointed me here! Gonna go poke around NRHS and see what I can learn there.

That can be dangerous. I learned that I need to spend $10,500 before I go shopping there. :( You already have that part covered though with purchasing a 2004 Sporty. :)
