Hi All, I haven't been active on the forum much lately but I have been working behind the scenes to get started on the next calendar (can you believe that this will be our 4th year?!). So I need everyone to be taking some great pictures of their bikes!! I will post specifics on how to submit your photos soon but for now you should just be taking pictures if you would like your bike to be in the calendar. Make sure your camera is set to take the biggest, highest quality pictures that it is capable of so that we can get a another great calendar next year. This year, like last year, I will be setting a fairly early deadline for photos since it takes a while to get the calendars printed and there are always delays and bumps along the road. Last year all but a couple of the calendars got delivered before christmas. This year I'd like that to be 100%. I will also be creating a couple of polls ( this thread has one as you can see) to help me set up the templates for the calendar. Todays' poll question: Which style calendar did you prefer? A) One bike per page B) Multiple bikes per page C) something else please leave a comment I hope that everyone is having a great summer (or winter if you are in the southern hemisphere)! Feel free to ask any questions about the calendar in here. Take Care, John

I remember when I enjoyed my bike just for the ride. Now it has to be pretty and I have to be a good photographer. Too much pressure. That's when I turned to drugs. Yes this forum has turned me to caffine. Just to keep up with the Ralph's and the Johnny's I need to drink coffee. Soon I will be downing tea like a fiend just to keep up with the Preacher's. I can't take the pressure.

hahaha... nice vegasc...

I for one, would like to buy several calenders this year... plus, I will be spit-shining the bike up for some sweet pics....

I wouldn't mind seeing a mix of calender pictures... say a nice big pic on one month, then maybe mixing it up and putting multiple bikes in the next... something like that...:tour:D

Thanks for the effort you put into this John.
May you have a less stressful end to December this year.

HAAA! Thanks! I'm still finding "remnants" of the water damage even now! :doh I'm hoping to send some more freebies this year too like I sent out with the 07 calendar! I felt bad that I didn't throw any stickers in with the 08 one! Perhaps if anyone wants to throw some design ideas out for a 2"x3.5" sticker then that would be great as well!

Cool!! I was just thinking of contacting you about this.

If I ever get Nasty Nancy out of the shop I will try and make a few photos to submit for this years calender.

i always thought everyone should get a small (like 1" x 1/2" ) plain black sticker with like xlforum on it to put by the vin or something so in a crowd of bikes we can tell who is a member.

A 52 page (1 per week) calendar would be cool. I know what I'll be doing for the next few weeks....

Hey, John. I definitely enjoyed the single-bike-per-month of the 2008 calendars. Is there any chance you could list the year and model of the bikes on those pictures or somewhere? My dad loved the calendar I gave him, but he was even more curious than I was about which bikes were which. I just think it would do a lot for forum members to be able to learn more about the variations over the years or the potentials for different models and years. Just a thought! You're awesome for doing this!

John, knowing how many folks want to see their bike, and the limited space, how about an 18-month calendar with 2-3 bikes on each month (so the photo's aren't too small)?

I agree a little "bike yr/model etc blurb" below on the calendar page itself would be nice. Just not on the picture itself.

I've thought about this too and think that it may be a good addition...I'll have to find a way to add this. Perhaps people can submit a small blurb about their bike when they submit the photograph....most of the time I know nothing about the bikes...actually, so that I'm unbiased in choosing the photographs for the calendar, I usually disassociate any screen name from the actual picture but that can be handled simply enough with a new processing protocol. I do like the idea and will try to find a way to work it into the calendar this year! Thanks for the input everyone!

Actually, I like a mix--some single bike pages, along with several collages.

11th July 2008, 18:44
How about a couple of pages of collages of the bikes that didn't quite make it at the end of the calender? You could put a 2010 calender (all on 1 page) and a notes page or something to balance it out.

Would it be hard to add the holidays to the calendar? Maybe moon phases too?

The previous/next months in the extra day squares make a calendar more useful.

I was gonna suggest a description block too, great minds....

I'd go for a single bike per page. As to not mess up the image, on the bottom (date) page, you could put the info down there.

Also any possibility of making the size a bit larger than last years?

Can't wait to submit some pics for this years!!

Oh this reminded me...no humans in the pictures please. :D Not sure if that's what you meant by the helmets or not but it reminded me just the same. I'd go for a single bike per page. As to not mess up the image, on the bottom (date) page, you could put the info down there.

It is possible to make the calendar larger (and I have wanted a larger one in the past) but I run into a few problems with it. 1) the cost goes up which means that less people buy calendars...which, in turn, makes the cost go up even more since the price goes down with every calendar orderd. 2) I had a hard time in earlier years getting enough high resolution pictures to fill the calendar...the bigger the page, the bigger the files need to be. This has been getting better each year though since people are getting higher and higher resolution cameras. I'll have to make the determination on size after I get the submissions this year.

I would really like to see 1 bike per page.. it is just so much cooler.

Maybe on the last page a sheet with all the extra bikes.

I would love it if I could make it in. I will take good pics and get it in ASAP. I hope I make it this year. I will break out the detail stuff!! Lol.

They have gone for $15-$21 shipped depending on how many people ordered and whether or not we did a charity donation or not. :)

I like one bike per page, let em fight it out for the 12 best pics . Making a collage for the front and back covers with the rest of the best may be a cool idea.

How about one of each for each month:

883C
883L
883R
1200C
1200L
1200N
1200R
XR1200

etc etc.... dig up the models :D

How about a 16 month calendar, with Nov & Dec 2008 plus Jan & Feb 2010. There would be more bikes on it, plus a bonus last page and front cover with a collage of all entries, just to be fair to all entries.

I'll make you a calendar with 12 of your pictures in it for a small fee but I doubt it would be worth it for most...would probably run somewhere between $20 and $30. But it's an option for anyone who would like one.
