Its all part of my plan..To get a FXDWG next summer, if not sooner. I wouldnt call it an upgrade, Just a different bike. I plan on getting my old 76 Ironhead back together over the next winter and then sell the Roadster to get the Wide Glide. Now if the wife agrees with all this I'll be all set.:roflblack

First of all, how are any of the bike you listed an Up-grade?
They are slower and handle far worse, to me an Up-grade would be a Buell.

Of the bikes you listed the Dyna wide glide handle horrable, the Delux is a very small persons bnike(Made for a short rider) that leaves the Night train and the Standard.
Both are good bikes, But really, you ride a 1995 sporty, try a New sporty first. They are a bit bigger, and smoother, but they still handle and will outrun any of the Big boys you listed.

My vote for you, a XL1200C.

My buddy and I switched bikes over the weekend since I've wanted a Street Bob since they came out, but he was the one getting all of the compliments about having a nice bike. Sure made me feel good. I still loved his Street Bob though.

So whether you would call a Softail (or a Dyna, or an FLH or even a Buell) an upgrade would really depend on your priorities (and your tastes).

Is a BT gonna be faster than a Sporty - probably not and if that's your priority, than not an upgrade. But a Buell on the otherhand, well, that would be an upgrade right?

Is a BT gonna be more comfortable, especially 2-up - quite possibly, so that might be an upgrade. A Buell is probably gonna be a downgrade here.

Or whatever else is your priority, certain looks, wind protection, luggage, whatever does it for you.

I agree. I think it depends on what you are looking for.
I would like a bigger bike for long cruises, and 2Up riding, but I have raced a few BT's, and have not been real impressed. Actually, was very disapointed that I could pull away from them. I guess I had expected more from them.

If I do ever change (not "upgrade"), I will try to hold onto my sporty, and just add to my garage! :)

If I were gonna, it would be a low rider. That's what I've always ridden up until now (Or I should say 17 years ago). Just now picking up my new Sportster this coming Wednesday and looking forward to it.

Although those are all nice bikes my problems with the Night Train and especially the Street Bob is the whole "factory custom" idea seems like a nice idea for inspiration but not as fun as having your own look. When the CVO's started coming out and I saw them at a dealer I was usually very impressed right up until I saw 30 of them at Laughlin.

That said I choose the Wide Glide, but only cause it is closer to the XL than the other three. If you had a 1200 up there it would have been my choice.

Of those on the list, I chose the Wide Glide, although the street bob would be my first choice of a non-dresser.

If I ever buy another bike for me it will be an Ultra Classic E-glide so my wife an I can tour. I can do some touring on the Sportster, but my wife can't do more than 150 miles or so on the Blast. The choice would be to trade her Blast in on a Low Rider, or buy "us" a touring bike for the long trips and keep our current bikes for commuting and blasting around.

None would be on my list.
BT`s I would consider........
Springers...both of them.
Street Bob,but it would need a fair amount of customizing to avoid looking like every other one.
Road King Custom.
Street Glide.
Super Glide,E-Glide Standard,and The new Heritage softail,cause they are the best deals.

I have a wideglide, and while I love the bike, it's really limited. I'm kinda short and you can only go so low with it. I voted for the standard, but the Nighttrain is a really nice bike too.

some people just think 2 much on other peoples thoughts. the funny thing about him is. hes to short for any thing with foward controls so hes stuck with mid controls on a dyna. or a sporty. so i think the bt fills the little person void..

I'd get a "Captain America" Superglide. Not for the bike, but it reminds me of good time in my life.

I would skip those choices and go for an '83 XR1000. Seen them, but never road one. They just look soooo cool.

I think that the most good upgrades are left of the list, Dyna doesn't seem to me to be much more than a bigger Sportster. I rented a Duece for a weekend it was ok but Sporty is better. easy handling and plenty of power!!
If I was to do another bike, first the Sporty stays!!! then the second bike would be a touring bike for me and momma. My choice would be Road king custom, Road Glide or Softail Deluxe set up for tournig!! IMO

My 1220 Custom is great, no complaints at all. It's fun to ride and economical for my 102 mi roundtrip to work everyday. Last weekend I was out shopping for my wife an 883L at a couple of different dealers and found myself setting on one ot the V-Rods. I would not really consider it an upgrade, but I have pretty much decided that my next bike will be a Super-Sporty V-Rod.

Of those listed, I like the Deuce for it's nice lines, but my thoughts for a long-haul ride would be with a FLHTCU (Ultra Classic). My "dream set" would be having the Hugger for my 'around town' needs and an Ultra for runs of over a few hundred miles.

There's nothing on that list that I would replace my sporty with. If I had to pick a Harley it would be a Dyna Standard with the same changes I made to the sporty. However, unless I win one I don't see that happening. I think the price of motorcycles in general are out of control. I don't think the bigger bikes are remotely worth what they are asking. Sure, SOMEONE will pay it but it won't be me. There are more realistic options if I ever need a bigger bike, a used Vulcan 1500 for example.

I would buy a v-rod, fast, handles well and looks good. But keep the sporty, have 2 bikes.
