Kev M 17th April 2006, 19:08 No posertails for me FLHRI, FXDI or FXDSBI thank you. Kev M 17th April 2006, 19:09 But if someone put a gun to my head, I think the Springer Classic if frickin' gorgeous! 95xlcustom 17th April 2006, 19:10 they dyna line is cool but i only like the wide glide. my buddys 05 fxdli is nice but its not me. 95xlcustom 17th April 2006, 19:11 springers are nice . dressers are to but im not that old xena 17th April 2006, 19:12 No offense, but I wouldn't buy any of those. If I were to go with a different HD, I'd go with a superglide custom or a low rider...That said, I do not think you are going to get the answers you want here. Might get a response more to your liking over at our sister forum: http://www.v2-forum.com/ g'luck! 95xlcustom 17th April 2006, 19:16 i dont care i know what i want and thats a night train, i just wanted to see what was peffered here thanks indyrednek 17th April 2006, 19:21 None. I would buy a "Road Sofa" bmonty72 17th April 2006, 19:23 I like the Firefighter edition Fatboy!!! 95xlcustom 17th April 2006, 19:24 what i would like to do is keep the 95 xlh 1200 and buy the night train. but its not going to happen. i went to ct to look at the swifts last week but i cant see spending 17k on a hard tail 80ci evo. 95xlcustom 17th April 2006, 19:25 th estealer i was at sat had a few armed forces paint set bikes there real nice. Loco 17th April 2006, 19:25 Well, if there were no sporties, I would go with the Dyna Wide Glide. Loco So. Cal. itsshemp 17th April 2006, 20:02 Of those choices, I would say Nightrain. wabiker 17th April 2006, 20:08 None of the above. I dont feel a softtail is necessarily a *upgrade*. But the Springer Classic get my vote too... Chicago Nick 17th April 2006, 20:34 Night Train all the way oakies 17th April 2006, 20:34 Its all part of my plan..To get a FXDWG next summer, if not sooner. I wouldnt call it an upgrade, Just a different bike. I plan on getting my old 76 Ironhead back together over the next winter and then sell the Roadster to get the Wide Glide. Now if the wife agrees with all this I'll be all set.:roflblack boyer911 17th April 2006, 20:38 the wide glide got my vote, but i'd go for street bob. no hurries for me, my sporty's just fine... Jeffytune 17th April 2006, 21:42 Hi. First of all, how are any of the bike you listed an Up-grade? They are slower and handle far worse, to me an Up-grade would be a Buell. Of the bikes you listed the Dyna wide glide handle horrable, the Delux is a very small persons bnike(Made for a short rider) that leaves the Night train and the Standard. Both are good bikes, But really, you ride a 1995 sporty, try a New sporty first. They are a bit bigger, and smoother, but they still handle and will outrun any of the Big boys you listed. My vote for you, a XL1200C. mr.braun 17th April 2006, 21:48 My buddy and I switched bikes over the weekend since I've wanted a Street Bob since they came out, but he was the one getting all of the compliments about having a nice bike. Sure made me feel good. I still loved his Street Bob though. mr.braun 17th April 2006, 21:50 Forgot the Pic... http://xlforum.net/photopost/watermark.php?file=8646 95xlcustom 17th April 2006, 21:56 i would call any thing that newer a upgrade. the new xbs are veru ugly i would buy a jap bike again before that. Kev M 17th April 2006, 22:02 Uprade means more, right? So whether you would call a Softail (or a Dyna, or an FLH or even a Buell) an upgrade would really depend on your priorities (and your tastes). Is a BT gonna be faster than a Sporty - probably not and if that's your priority, than not an upgrade. But a Buell on the otherhand, well, that would be an upgrade right? Is a BT gonna be more comfortable, especially 2-up - quite possibly, so that might be an upgrade. A Buell is probably gonna be a downgrade here. Or whatever else is your priority, certain looks, wind protection, luggage, whatever does it for you. Kev Sportster Girl 17th April 2006, 22:04 Is there a moose around here anywhere? Ole? Anybody? itsshemp 17th April 2006, 22:17 I agree. I think it depends on what you are looking for. I would like a bigger bike for long cruises, and 2Up riding, but I have raced a few BT's, and have not been real impressed. Actually, was very disapointed that I could pull away from them. I guess I had expected more from them. If I do ever change (not "upgrade"), I will try to hold onto my sporty, and just add to my garage! :) kvanderlin 17th April 2006, 22:25 If I were gonna, it would be a low rider. That's what I've always ridden up until now (Or I should say 17 years ago). Just now picking up my new Sportster this coming Wednesday and looking forward to it. Keith V (K0KAV) 883L Ness BS & C/S slip-on waiting to pop on. edman 17th April 2006, 22:25 To ride a Sportster and say “ I’m upgrading to a Softail” is like Driving a Corvette and saying “I’m upgrading to a minivan”. Jeffytune 17th April 2006, 22:27 Ok, My point was that I was trying to get you to ride a newer rubbermount Sportster. That is all. Vegas1200C 17th April 2006, 22:58 Although those are all nice bikes my problems with the Night Train and especially the Street Bob is the whole "factory custom" idea seems like a nice idea for inspiration but not as fun as having your own look. When the CVO's started coming out and I saw them at a dealer I was usually very impressed right up until I saw 30 of them at Laughlin. That said I choose the Wide Glide, but only cause it is closer to the XL than the other three. If you had a 1200 up there it would have been my choice. 95xlcustom 17th April 2006, 23:01 well my buddy that has never ridin a harley has the sportster complex. has to buy a dyna. i think it makes him fell better. im going to keep my xlh and save some money to have 2 bikes. im not lossing any sleep. xena 17th April 2006, 23:18 well my buddy that has never ridin a harley has the sportster complex. has to buy a dyna. i think it makes him fell better Your buddy needs to get educated....... And, if he's easily taunted by clueless morons, then he's going to be pretty disappointed after the first dillhole calls his Dyna a girls bike! Vegas1200C 17th April 2006, 23:21 Even more dissapointed when he is watching you get smaller as you blow him away in the twisties. :roflblack :roflblack :roflblack DustyJacket 17th April 2006, 23:24 Of those on the list, I chose the Wide Glide, although the street bob would be my first choice of a non-dresser. If I ever buy another bike for me it will be an Ultra Classic E-glide so my wife an I can tour. I can do some touring on the Sportster, but my wife can't do more than 150 miles or so on the Blast. The choice would be to trade her Blast in on a Low Rider, or buy "us" a touring bike for the long trips and keep our current bikes for commuting and blasting around. dooley 18th April 2006, 00:02 None would be on my list. BT`s I would consider........ Springers...both of them. Street Bob,but it would need a fair amount of customizing to avoid looking like every other one. Road King Custom. Street Glide. Super Glide,E-Glide Standard, and The new Heritage softail, cause they are the best deals. rokclmb 18th April 2006, 00:09 what would u buy. i would get the night train. but thats my choice. u might not want any of these. i m upgrading to a softail. Technically isn't the Dyna Wide Glide just as much of a softail as the Sportster? ridinhi 18th April 2006, 00:31 I have a wideglide, and while I love the bike, it's really limited. I'm kinda short and you can only go so low with it. I voted for the standard, but the Nighttrain is a really nice bike too. FXDWG/I stands for Frickin Xpensive Damn Wide Glide / Idiot xllent01 18th April 2006, 00:32 This would be my first choice so i can look down and snub on all Bastards :roflblack :clap :banana Yes it's black but that's ok. After a few mods dumping signals, speedo, maybe different seat this bike would be T!TS. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a84/xllent01/bobber-1.jpg Y2K 18th April 2006, 00:33 Non of the above :laugh If I bought another cruiser it would be a Lowrider ;) 95xlcustom 18th April 2006, 00:54 i no the fxdwg in not a softy but i like it. i just needs the 200 mm rear with the big bob tail. fender 95xlcustom 18th April 2006, 00:58 Your buddy needs to get educated....... And, if he's easily taunted by clueless morons, then he's going to pretty disappointed after the first dillhole calls his Dyna a girls bike! some people just think 2 much on other peoples thoughts. the funny thing about him is. hes to short for any thing with foward controls so hes stuck with mid controls on a dyna. or a sporty. so i think the bt fills the little person void.. mnewb1 18th April 2006, 01:38 I think I would go with a softail spinger or a fatboy jamman 18th April 2006, 01:54 Ok, My point was that I was trying to get you to ride a newer rubbermount Sportster. That is all. ride one, they took all the ride out of them... sorry went with a bob, not on your list.... Chip 18th April 2006, 01:57 Other than the Dyna Wide Glide, I'd have to go for a Heritage Classic. t.c. Johnson 18th April 2006, 02:15 I'd get a "Captain America" Superglide. Not for the bike, but it reminds me of good time in my life. Hexxor_Siaxxon 18th April 2006, 05:22 I would skip those choices and go for an '83 XR1000. Seen them, but never road one. They just look soooo cool. Hex jrazo 18th April 2006, 08:59 I voted Night Train of the choices listed, but my sights are set on a Night Rod or Ducati within the next year or two. But I will not be getting rid of the Sporty! gronk62 18th April 2006, 09:28 Umm..there is no "upgrade" from a Sportster :laugh Is there a moose around here anywhere? Ole? Anybody? :roflblack :roflblack smoke 18th April 2006, 12:33 I would get another Sportster (and keep it) cadiero 18th April 2006, 13:28 I already have the Sportster and the Wide Glide. I really wouldn't choose any of those bikes. Maybe a Road Glide, that would be my choice. But I really am happy for now. No need for anything new for quite a while. jbrews 18th April 2006, 14:19 i would go with street glide loki03xlh 18th April 2006, 14:30 My choices in order are: 1. Wide Glide, 2. Street bob, 3. Low rider, 4. Road King. No trailor queens, I mean softails for me. Kev M 18th April 2006, 14:42 Technically isn't the Dyna Wide Glide just as much of a softail as the Sportster? HUH? What the frick are you talking about? (edit, 1200R explained how stupid I was this morning, I THINK I get it, disregard the rest which is left here for posterity). The Dyna Wide Glide FXDWGI - an FX - big twin, small front end, D - Dyna- standard dual shock swingarm chassis - WG - wide triple trees/mini apes and a bobtail fender and forward controls is as much a SOFTAIL ??? FXST of some sort ? So a big twin, small front end SOFTAIL CHASSIS with the poser swingarm and hidden shocks and yeah the bobtail fender and forward controls as the Sportster? Saying the Sportster shares something with a Softail? I mean, ok, IF you're saying the Dyna, especially the wide glide, is some sort of middle ground between a Sporty and a Softail, then I might actually agree. Otherwise, I'm just totally lost at what you're saying. Kev stvmike 18th April 2006, 14:51 I think that the most good upgrades are left of the list, Dyna doesn't seem to me to be much more than a bigger Sportster. I rented a Duece for a weekend it was ok but Sporty is better. easy handling and plenty of power!! If I was to do another bike, first the Sporty stays!!! then the second bike would be a touring bike for me and momma. My choice would be Road king custom, Road Glide or Softail Deluxe set up for tournig!! IMO Mike xl1200r 18th April 2006, 14:55 HUH? What the frick are you talking about? Otherwise, I'm just totally lost at what you're saying. Kev Kev, I think you totally missed the train on this one. I think what he was saying is that he wanted a softail, but had a dyna on the list. The dyna is most certainly not a softail given it's convential rear suspension, same the sportster, so the only comparison is on the rear suspension. If the rear of an XL is the same as the rear on a Dyna, then they're both just as much softail as the other, which is none. Sportster Girl 18th April 2006, 15:01 HUH? By that time I hope to have my Sporty making 100 HP!! spoofer 15th May 2006, 20:32 I wanna Roadking Classis jamman 15th May 2006, 21:04 none of those....I would be happy with a satin black Street Bob, they are frikkin nice.....got that industrial no nonsense look down for sure......and I will add : the '74 xlh won't go anywhere, it's a keeper the paint grows on ya mike , very sweet in the wild..:D VETRAN 28th May 2006, 18:43 ...I would probably get a rubber mount C and build a bobber, I want a XR1000and a touring bike (to take the Wife) would be nice!!!! Desertfox 29th May 2006, 04:25 What? No Buells? In a BT? Nothing but a Road King. s0uthernrebel78 11th April 2007, 20:00 night train less chrome less time cleaning but i really want a electra glide Phelan 11th April 2007, 20:26 I voted for nithtrain, but if I were gonna get a Softail, I'd get a Screamin' Eagle Springer in Yellow. Johnny Wolf 29th August 2007, 17:45 None of the above.... "If" I could still keep my sporty I'd get a Street Glide, or a Street Bob. sprtrjl 29th August 2007, 22:55 The list needs updated! Since I have what I have, I might go with a Softail Custom, Fat Bob or one of the Rockers XLH4EVER 29th August 2007, 23:35 Definitely a Deuce or Night Train, or best of all build a custom with a 124" or more.:tour jimmyess333 11th December 2007, 01:02 There's nothing on that list that I would replace my sporty with. If I had to pick a Harley it would be a Dyna Standard with the same changes I made to the sporty. However, unless I win one I don't see that happening. I think the price of motorcycles in general are out of control. I don't think the bigger bikes are remotely worth what they are asking. Sure, SOMEONE will pay it but it won't be me. There are more realistic options if I ever need a bigger bike, a used Vulcan 1500 for example. phantomryder 11th December 2007, 01:06 I would buy a v-rod, fast, handles well and looks good. But keep the sporty, have 2 bikes. |
