Do any of you have opinions/riding impressions on the pros/cons of the new Buell Ulysses Adventurer.

I've never even seen the Ulysses but I really dig Buells - especially the XBs.

If you can get your hands on the December 2005 Rider magazine, there is a 2500-mile Buell Ulysses Tour Test.

I think they look great. I'd love to have the chance to ride one and really see what it can do.

Welcome to the forum!

I think we have at least one Ulysses owner here... from Oz I think....

The Thunder Press has a very good article about them in the current edition.

I have had the chance to sit on one, i have not taken it out, but from sitting on it I can tell you if you have less then a 32 inseam, you will not fit. I have a 33 inseem, and I was in tippy toes holding it up.

I think it would be a fine riding sport bike.

I've been getting a real jones for the Uly. Enough of one to even start thinking about selling the Sporty! But I'm gonna see what they do for the next model year. There are just a couple things I want on a Uly, like a btter windsheild, before I would buy one. But they are fun. I rode one and took it off road. :banana Fun.....Fun......Fun.....:banana

.....The Uly is a good bike with a few dumb faults...........

.....Very high seat and not enough steering lock...........

.....On the plus side........good power......comfy seat and great ergos.......and FUN to ride........It's also easy to set up with luggage If your into touring......

......ADV rider and the badweb are good places to check out If you want more info from owners.......

.....If your serious about off road touring take a look at the big KTM and the BMW GS........

Plan on having a 34" inseam if ya wanna flatfoot this baby...

I have sat on them, and with my 34" inseam, I'm only able to get my feet flat on the ground if I slide towards the very front of the seat.

This bike feels similiar to the V Strom 1000 in seat height and balance.

Oh it is taller than the V-Strom, even with the low seat on the Buell I can not flat foot it. I'd sure like to ride one to see how it compares.

I'd love to have one, but the next bike on our list is a bigger touring bike. I've ridden the one with the stock seat and, aside from the seat height, it is awsome. I have a 32" inseam and the Uly is a little tippy for me. But they do make a lower seat for it and, even without, if you're used to riding a dirt bike, it's manageable. To be honest, I don't think I'd spend enough time off road to make it worthwhile, but if that's your thing, I think it's a great machine.

By the way, there is a also a good write upon it in the bike review section at the AMA web site (www.ama-cycle.org).

I want one....as soon as they lower the seat. With a 30" inseam, I need training wheels.

I rode one today, for the first time.
It was better than I thought, it had the low seat too. I enjoyed it, and may buy one.

My boss just bought one in Florida and rode it home to Dallas, TX and he loves it. He's on his tiptoes to touch down, but didn't have any problems. I'll report more if he'll let me ride it...

Oh, and it sounds sweet with the Buell stage on race kit.

I have one, my inseam is 30", I can't flatfoot it. I've got a corbin seat on it that lowers the seat a bit, but I was fine with the stocker. My XR400 dirtbike has a 37.5 inch seat height and I have to kick start that one, so the Uly is a piece of cake, the height just hasn't been an issue.

As the owner of American Sport Bike, I have 6 Buells (95S2, 96S1, 98S1W, 99S3, 03XB9S, and 06 Uly). I can honesly say that if I could only have ONE, it would be the Uly. I've streeted mine out a bit (CRG bar ends, lower Renthal bar, Metzler Z4 tires, regluar lightning front fender, Micron pipe) and will be doing even more in that direction. I still take it offroad, but stock or street tires, this is no dirt bike. It's too heavy for that. But it's a great fire road bike either way.

It's a bit on the homely side. Every one of my other Buells are "prettier". But the darn thing works so well in so many ways, I'm seeing past all that. And once I'm done with my changes, it'll be nice enough looking.

Hey Al!

I am soooo jonesing for a Uly. I love my 9sx, and it works incredibly well, but if the 12x had been available when I bought my CityX I would have got the Uly.

So the plan now is to wait until my dealer gets a used Uly, or maybe a last years model, and see if they will do me any favors on a trade in. If not, I love the 9sx for it's strengths as well.

Have you had that Uly with the Micron on a dyno yet? How loud is it? I am still trying to figure out how you got a XB9 with the micron up over 90 HP with just ECM, filter, and exhaust mods... thats remarkable.

The Uly with a Micron, ASB open airbox, and directlink remapping hit 101 RWHP. After another 15 posts here or so, I'll be able to post a dyno chart. The micron not only delivers a good top end number, it also has a big fat middle too. I'd characterize it as louder than a Buell race pipe by a little, quieter than a D&D by a lot, with a deeper rumble than either.

I'm typing this from Waterloo, where we're running an XB muffler shootout this weekend. We'll have results on all the domestically available XB mufflers on both an XB9 and XB12, with open airbox and DirectLink tuned WOT results. We'll have sound clips, weights, photos, etc. A full test report will be available in a couple weeks.

Al, good to have you on board. I'd say most anyone here would be happy to post your dyno chart for you until you get enough posts. A pictuce of your Uly would be great also.

Thew Buel Ulisseys is the reason I have a Harley today...

I rode one the other day...In South Dakota the open fields were calling..."Come and Play"... but it wasn't my bike... I felt like a teenager again riding a big dirtbike that I could take anywhere...My wife even liked the seat being 2up ... We also loved the hard bags that was on it, very high quality... My top choice in the Buell line but Im still in love with the XB12S also.

I'm really getting the itch for a Ulysses. Here in WA/ID/MT (my riding locales) there are lots of forest service roads that I want to ride but very few of them are hardpacked enough to comfortably take my Sporty on. I was in the dealer a couple weeks ago and they had one with the hard bags and tour pack. I hopped on it and loved the feel of it. While I was on it, one of the guys working walked up and commented that I was one of the first that could easily flat foot it with my knees still bent (36" inseams come in handy sometimes). It felt so light and balanced. I think I'm going to have to dream about one until '08 when I might be able to get one. So many bikes and so little money.

I had a go on the Ulysses when I had my sportster's first service. It had the Micron full system mentioned above.
F@cking lovely. It makes the best sound I ever heard come of a sportster/buell engine. Loads of popping too (which I llike). Shame it looks so ugly, but the ride was good if not a bit too high (I am 6 foot).
Worth every penny
