I junked my 21" laced wheel on my 05 Custom for an OEM 13 spoke cast wheel that I got from ebay. Now I'm looking for a 16" rear to match, but not much available that is an exact swap i.e. from an 04-06 Roadster. Does anyone know which of the older sportster wheels or wheels from different models will fit straight on?

Didn't they even change the Diameter of the rear axle even after 04? Something like that? Not sure about before that but seem to remember reading something along those lines here...

My 04 still has the 3/4 axle
05 and 06 have a 1 inch.

You may be able swap the bearings if you get another an 04 wheel. The 03 earlier will most likely be a different width so you might have a hard time finding one.

Even if they did change the axle diameter I'm sure they didnt change the wheels themselves. So I'm pretty sure that leaves you with a change of bearings to the 04+ ones. So you could get the newest wheel you can, and then change the bearings if needed. This is just an educated guess so I'd wait for more info from other members. :)

I'm looking to get rid of my stock aluminum cast (solid) rear wheel. It's from an 04 custom and is 3/4" diameter axle. PM me for pics if interested and if you find a way to work around the axle diameter difference.

I think the wheels are the same, but definitely different bearing size.

I'm surprised you can't find one on ebay - I have seen them there before.

Another solution is to ask your local dealer if they have any take-offs. I'm sure someone will have swapped out the mag for laced wheels.

Cheers,

Brett

The bearing spacer inside the wheel on the 05 is also different than the 04 and down. It will need to be a 1" sleeve and I'm not for certain but I think it is also a different length.

I've got a set of front and rear mag wheels like you discribe but I'd like to sell them as a set. My neighbor got them in a bet and they are at least 3 to 4 years old but in new condition.

Thanks for the feedback guys - I missed it eal time as I was out of town.
SporT1 - Thanks all the same but I realy don't need 2.
Chrome - Oh Crap! That would have been PERFECT - but I missed it. Not sure why I didn't see it when I searched though as I thought I trawled up every HD wheel for 4 days out.
Vince - Cant see whats on back of yours but thats the front I wanted to match alright.
MikeyT - I already have the stock Custom solid (well slotted) cast wheel thanks - it was the 13 or maybe 9 spoker that I was after thanks.

My rear is the same as my front. If I could find a 19 inch spoked for the front cheap enough I'd swap yuh !

Petev, I've got an 05 and with the 13 spoke cast wheels and they are coming off in about two weeks. My wife bought me a set of chrome billet wheels for our anniversary (gotta love her) so I'll have a set of wheels with nothing to put them on. Looking at this post I can't tell if they would fit you're bike or not, but if they do I'd be willing to part with one (if that's all your looking for). PM me and let me know if you're still looking. i also have a rear wheel with tire off my 05 1200r for sale. if you get an 04 rear wheel, you will need to have the hub machined to fit the 1 inch spacer between the bearings. you can shoot me an email at d9dblr@yahoo.com if you want the wheel.
