I didn't see which way they came out, but there's an oil hole in one side of the lifter. Which way should it face? No mention of it at all in the manual.

I've never seen a mention of it in the manuals. Most of the time when I've pulled those out of virgin motors, the oil holes have been towards the cylinder. But just when I was sure that was a pattern, I took apart a new motor that had them the other way. It doesn't matter.
