The fairing is a modified '92 Glide piece I got from eBay. The trim ring is an aftermarket aluminum gas cap/cover without the center plate.....:smoke

That looks awsome! I am slowly heading toward the same direction. Got some small bags and tour pak on the way from California. My set up will be smaller and most likely more permanent.
Don't worry, I am not trying to copy you, just follow your lead!
I'll post pics when installed.

The bags are bolted on so they don't come off easily. It's all the other stuff that's quick change:banapart

Snowman,
To use a modern cliche, "Sweeeeeeeeeet!" Best job I've seen so far adapting the fairing. Great job. Any pics of the TourPak setup? I have the rigid leather HD bags, and I've been considering the batwing and a tour pak, but haven't sat down to figure out the logistics yet. I'm planning to make it all detachable, keeping with the Jekyll and Hyde capability I have so far.
Awesome ride!

EDIT- Nevermind the pics... I found your gallery. Lookin' good!

snowman
26th April 2006, 00:56
The fairing is a three bolt deal so it comes off easy (no internal fairing piece) and rides real well (minimal buffeting). I'll shoot a foto of the tourpak tomorrow and post it.

I have a few more shots in my gallery too :wonderlan :wonderlan :wonderlan

Very nice :clap :clap :clap could you give us a rundown on the parts you used and any mods you had to do to make them fit ??

Might be riding to Wrigley Field for a game this year from Daytona and that sure looks like the way to go.

Once again that's an awsome job everything looks like it's factory, or at least what the factory should offer as a choice for the Sportster.:clap :clap

I went to your gallery. Out standing!! Hopefully something like that will eventually make it into my combo. I've just started picking up pieces that I'm trying to detachable mount to let me go from one look to the other quickly. Out of curiosity, where did you get the tour pack (it looks more deluxe than pics I've seen of the one from HD).

For those who asked about the bags, they are HD glide bags (2005) I got off eBay. I fabbed mounts similar to that found on this site:

http://www.moccsplace.com/images/hdbag/hdbags.htm

The brackets are mounted in the same location as the detachable sideplates, using the HD hardware so I can swap sissy bar, solo rack, tour pak real easily. :banana:banana:banana

The tour pak I bought from Acifica (ebay store) in black & silver. I painted it HD Vivid Black and mounted it to the HD sporty tourpak detachable bracket. The website for the toupak is:

http://shop.vendio.com/evan2002/

The fairing is also the HD glide piece from an '88 Glide FLHT. It's just the outer shell that I glassed in a metal trim ring to match the size of the stock light. The trim ring on the outside is from an aluminum aftermarket racing filler cover (cap removed). I fabbed two brackets 3/4" x 6" mounted from the top two holes of the handlebar clamps and one bracket mounted under the lower tree, out to the respective spots on the fairing. The three bolts hold it on great and it's been on several hundred mile runs without a hitch:D:D:D

Brake and tail lights are SOMA 6" LEDs from J & P Cycles wired into the stock parts. Hope that answers most of the questions :wonderlan :wonderlan :wonderlan

Let me echo everyone's accolades for your bike - it looks fantastic. A couple questions. Did that front fender bolt right on, or did it require any welding or drilling or anything? And how to do you like the floorboards? They look great, but how do they compare to the stock footpegs? Do they scrape in turns? Thanks.

Very Nice - I especially like the red dragon graphics!! I'll be watching out for you in the area. I work in A^2 and live north of Pinckney and I commute everyday on my 883. I have the HD hard leather bags on mine, as well as some hand deflectors for those cold morning commutes. Want to put the larger fuel tank on and switch to a Mustang Solo seat in the near future. I also want to put the engine guard on mine as well. You certainly have her camoflaged well. If people didn't know better they would swear that was a BT!!!! :D

JDB,

The front fender is a J&P part that bolts in place. I set mine up about 1 1/2" lower that the stock holes by locating it where I wanted it and drilling new holes in the mounts (real easy to do).

The floorboards really rock!!! I had to do some mods to these too so they would feel right. I flipped the left and right clevis mounts over and left out the lowering extension and mounted the boards all the way forward.

I used one of the extensions on the shift peg to raise it up for my boot and I drilled out the brake pedal to bolt on the Fatboy Skullrider brake pedal. Haven't scraped the boards yet, they still do a partial fold just in case..:smoke

Thanks TW,

I'll watch for you when I get out that way. I usually ride to our Toledo office. Heard great things about the Mustang and the Sundowner seats. I have a bum left leg and I set the bike down about the second week I had it. Left the curled clutch lever on for a month to remind me, then I got the highway bars and haven't looked back since:gun

This is absolutely awesome Snowman. The fairing, floorboards, it all ties together beautifully. Nothing looks off balance or out of place. I'm going a different route (not being nearly as mechanically inclined) with bags, windshield, and highway bars, but I just may need to get info from you on the floorboards and try that route instead. Again, it's artwork in motion. greg

I'm looking into doing this myself but i cant seem to find the SOMA 6" LED lights on J&P cycles. Anyone have a link?

Edit-Scratch that, found em

Roadster_Rider

Damn expensive suckers arent they, you spent 200 bucks on lights alone... maybe i'll find a cheaper solution.

snowman
14th May 2006, 17:50
Here's the link for the SOMA LEDs at J&P:

http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.aspx?GID=004B577E-3C2F-4108-8A47-FA574A540E5E

I'm finding that the amber turnsignals are not as bright in the daylight as the stockers. Might have to add something to them.....:smoke

I think i found a pretty good solution to my light problem, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Sequential-LED-turn-signals-LicPlate_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35571QQitemZ46 37447518QQrdZ1
As long as it'll be bright enough, any thoughts? Oh, and i found some police bags off a 2004 for 200 bucks, and theyre ending really soon. Any idea what it would cost to repaint some saddlebags black?

Edit-Snowman do you think theres enough room in there to fit the relocation kit for the stock turn signals or not? looking at pics it doesnt really look like there is.

Re Edit-Sorry for all the questions snowman, but you got me interested in doing this myself now, did you not do a lower support bar like the link you showed says you need to do? is it not really necessary?

The lower fairing mount is a straight piece of 6" x 1" wide aluminum coming from the lower headlight mount forward to the fairing. The top mounts bolt into the top two bolts on the handlebar clamp (take a look in my gallery):smoke
