View Full Version : Sportster Chopper Frames
hogpreacher 26th April 2006, 16:36 Hey gang,
I have a '97 1200 Sport. I am looking to put it in a chopper frame. I have checked out Rolling Thunder, Atlas Precision, Pauchco, CCD, Bike Bandit and others. The one I am most interested in is from CCD. It is a monoshock set up that keeps the engine lower to the bottom frame rails. Here's the link.

I am open to your thoughts, concerns, experience, questions AND recommendations.
Thanks in advance.

Sportster1200 26th April 2006, 17:16 The CCD frame is from the UK. I would see if there is one available a little more local if you are in the US. Looks like a nice frame to me but a pretty big chunk of change once you figure in exchange and shipping.

hogpreacher 26th April 2006, 18:05 True, seems to be about $3,000 +/- with shipping. I also like the frame from Sculpture (http://www.sculpturecycles.com/a-Frames-SCS-SportsterSoftail.htm) and from Nasty Bikes (http://www.nastybikes.com/frame_specs_sportster_buell.htm) While a hardtail would be easier to assemble, I like the idea of a softer ride on long rides.
melcheld 26th April 2006, 18:52 Are you stuck on a softtail? If not, I really like the mutant buell/sporty frames from Redneck Engineering.
Cheers,
Luke
snowman 26th April 2006, 19:16 You can go with the rigid and use a sprung seat. Jesse Rooke has a cool monoshock. Indian Larry used them on the last few bikes he built too......
hogpreacher 26th April 2006, 19:38 Melcheld,
No, not stuck on softail frame. Just think over the long haul it would be easier on my tail and better resale. However, I am looking at all options including hardtails and seat support systems.
9fingerkustomz 26th April 2006, 19:40 take a look at www.mcworx.com (http://www.mcworx.com)Frank and the crew do some really nice things in Sporty/Buell frames.

Denzone 26th April 2006, 19:44 Have you seen the frames at Redneck? They make some that you can just drop the Sporty/Buell engine in.

cphilip 26th April 2006, 19:53 They are five miles from where I sit right now. If anyone wants me to go check something out for them I could be persuaded... They say they want me to have a legitimate reason to come out from now on... however I have not been notified of any restraining order or nuttin... :D
AdO650 27th April 2006, 13:01 Don't know where you are but if Chesterfield's near you take a look at http://www.classic-custom.co.uk/
they will build a frame for you from scratch to your requirements..:tour
hogpreacher 27th April 2006, 19:16 Just looked at mcworx.com. Looks tough! Great design and styles. Thanks for the tip.

Frank and the crew there do FANTASTIC work. I've personally know Frank for over 20 years and worked with him out of his garage for several years before he hit the "Big Time". You can't go wrong with them and as you can tell they can do anything from a Street Fighter to Old school and be right on with what you want. If you happen to talk to him tell him I sent you.

Hanoverfiste 30th April 2006, 14:38 www.cycleonemanufacturing.com makes some nice frames, I just ordered a frame from them,. they are quite helpful. ordered a 3up 2 out rogid.. 200 rear with belt drive.. I hope to be riding it by late july....
got mine from v_twin-rigid for a 200 rear tire cost was around $650 and only very minor fitment problems(had to make a new front upper mount)-might want to check it out
Jeffytune 16th May 2006, 04:25 HI.
Wile these types of bikes are not my cup of tea, i would like you to consider selling your 1200S and getting a standard 1200 to do this conversion.
There are only so many 1200S's out there, hate to loose one if it can be saved.
If you still plan to go forward with this bike, and you are not going to use the front end off this bike, Please PM me, I would like to talked to you about maybe buying off you.
HarleyDWolf 30th May 2006, 05:37 Another good site for a frame for the Sporty is from Carolina Custom Products, they have a kit where you use a Sporty as a donor bike and swap it over into their hardtail frame. Makes it into a nice little bobber.:tour
Their site is carolinacustomproducts.com/sportster.html
