View Full Version : Have I paid my taxes ? ebikerman 27th April 2006, 02:47 I will be glad when my taxes are paid, which will be as soon as Sorgy delivers the CS TPs...or can I claim that the taxes are paid with only changing the mufflers ?......Dan Vegas1200C 27th April 2006, 03:18 round these parts you need to change to a higher flow air cleaner and exhaust which will also involve rejetting the carb before you have paid your taxes. But hey, it's your bike. You can say what you want. It is really just opening the engine up to what is was designed for as opposed to what the EPA will allow them to sell. bshadbolt 27th April 2006, 03:32 I don't believe there is a federal law about paying taxes on a sporty, but US-GAAP (US Generally Accepted Alteration Principles) suggests that it comprises a high flow air filter, high flow exhaust system and a rejet. Cheers, Brett ebikerman 27th April 2006, 05:40 So far, it looks like I'm going to have to get a tax extension before I can claim my taxes are paid. Thanks for the input. I really don't want to change the carburation or air filter. Contrary to most, I prefer higher filtration to greater air flow. My '06 XL 1200 C runs really strong and vibrates very little stock. It appears that some XL Forum members have messed up good running bikes seeking power that they will hardly ever use. Fifty MPG is hard to beat too. I just want to listen to those silly old CS pipes. I must say I am a little dissapointed though...I like that term "Taxes Paid". I may not get to use it for myself...Dan Vegas1200C 27th April 2006, 05:53 I ran mine for over a year with just louder pipes and really enjoyed the bike. I finally finished paying around a month ago and it is like getting a new bike. I guess what I'm saying is their is nothing wrong with waiting. The change is noticeable but it is still a fine bike without it. Enjoy your ride for now and when you are ready for an upgrade you will find all the help you need in this forum. ebikerman 27th April 2006, 06:16 This is like a brotherhood...you get agreement and dissagreement. Can't beat that. I appreciate being accepted into the group even though some of my notions are contrary to the accepted trend. I am a long time biker, but not a know it all especially since this is my first Harley since 1951. That is two Harleys out of 45 various bikes in 55 years. As the future becomes the present, I will be seeking more guidance from all you guys and gals of the XL forum. Thanks and God bless you all...Dan Sportster Girl 27th April 2006, 12:21 I ran mine for over a year with just louder pipes and really enjoyed the bike. I did just the pipes first (financially strapped after the bike purchase). I ran it that way for several months and was quite happy with just having the sound. When I did get enough funds to finish Stage 1, the bike really woke up performance- wise. Made a big difference! Whatever makes you happy and works for you is cool....:tour wacosporty 28th April 2006, 02:14 I installed the K&N OEM replacement filter but ran the stock pipes until reading gronk62's sticky in the exhaust forum. He's quite the accountant in helping one reduce taxes. No, let me take that back: he offers a tax rebate!!@#!! Bought a set of stock mufflers off ebay, cut the baffles out, oversized the holes, and will get them zipped back up this weekend. Just my .02 sportube (nube, as in tube) ebikerman 28th April 2006, 03:10 Sportynube, I considered doing just what you did with stock mufflers. I have a friend that did less than you plan on doing and his sounds good...They are not very loud either. Not quite loud enough to me. He just cut the baffels out and did not have to rejet. For me, I wanted a little more sound, not much more though as I probably will have with the CS mufflers...Dan |
