View Full Version : What exactly are the posting rules?

I ask because I've been taken by surprise recently.
http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?threadid=271476
What I've discovered is that:
1. It's a far bigger sin to make a redundant post (:shhhheven if the original was in a poorly titled thread that doesn't give any clue to the subject matter:shhhh) than it is to give a thread a vague title.
2. You should be aware of the content of all recent threads before making a new thread or a post in that new thread. (Even if, in the end, the proper title of the new thread makes it more successful than the original with the vague title.)
3. To belittle someone for a "redundant":frownthre post or thread is completely acceptable. To call someone out for doing so is most certainly not.
4. There'e a million reasons why someone shouldn't start a thread.
But if someone abides by these rules by searching before they post, and not posting just to hear themselves talk if you will, and that results in a low post count, then they're not really part of the club and should just keep quiet.
5. There's apparently a magic number of posts that makes a member immune from all of the rules and gives them the right to belittle the low-posters at will. What is this magic number, and how did so many people reach it without breaking all of these posting rules?
6. High posters can elude to profanity. Low-posters cannot.

Not sure exactly where the rules are located on this forum, but I think what you're talking about has nothing to do with rules, it's mostly due to your feelings being hurt or getting mad about something some inconsiderate person said I think. There are currently 26,480 member here on this forum, every post you make will not be approved by every member. Don't pay any attention to upsetting remarks, though I do know it only takes a few to ruin one's day. Enjoy the forum for the good things it has to offer and the good people it does have, life's too short to get upset if it can be avoided. Just my 2 cents, but I've been around awhile...

Don't worry about it bro, Just enjoy the site and brush it off. I think that thread simply got a bit out of control by accident. I really didn't think he neant it to be mean when he said that. Hence the Smiley face.
Anyway these things come and go things get taken the wrong way and mistakes are made by us all. Please don't fret any over it.
The mods do a great job here under extreme circumstances, They can't monitor every little post. And they are generaly very understanding.
As for the post count, That has nothing to do with anything, The rules stay the same for everyone. ..
Remember the two majic rules!:
Rule 1, Dont sweat the small stuff !!
Rule 2, It's all small stuff !!
Have fun ...:smoke

+1 on what milmat and rascal said. Good responses I believe.
I think I know what you're talking about in your post... and I think its directly related to this being an internet forum, and people and their sarcasm being taken out of context. If a person was to talk to another actually in-person, then I think most of the time there would be no issue such as this.
Everyone is pretty accepting here...
"I remember the first time I unwrapped that Werthers original, golden wrapper..." haha remember those commercials??!! :laugh:laugh :D

Very true !! It's easy to take something the wrong way when you can't see if the persons expressions. Very Good Point !!

I wouldnt take things too seriously. We like people who can take the heat and give it right back. ((I'm a wuss and stay under the radar :) ))
I think your gonna fit in just fine here. :)
Looks to me like the complainer was the instigator.

Here this whole time I thought the rules directly correlated to Dick size. I just figured that I have a pretty small Dick. :laugh

This is really the heart of the issue for me. Who's the instigator.
In what context is busting someone's balls for making a "redundant" post not born from malicious intent? (It's important remember the post was hardly redundant at all.) Bear in mind, just because someone doesn't think they're being belittling, doesn't mean that they aren't. It's a passive-aggressive DH type thing to do. So I called him on it.

:iagree
Just cause the thread was already covered somewhere else and someone merely pointed it out to you don't mean you need to get your panties all in a bunch.
Don't forget that you could've easily just ignored his comment instead of the "want a !!!!ing cookie?" reply. To most of us, a response like that says you are ready and willing to play. Best way to avoid these kinda conflicts are the "ignore it and it'll go away" theory. If at that point it doesn't, then it becomes a bigger issue...

I'd love to. I'd love to get on here and post things about sportsters, given the name of the forum and all. That's exactly what I was trying to do. But I can't. My low post count is directly related to seeing how people are regularly raked over the coals for posting stuff related to the content of the site because, GASP! it has already been posted somewhere else or something trivial like that.
A lot of you get on here to socialize. That's great, more power to you. Some people get on here mostly when they want to know or have something specific to say about sportsters. Some of the socializers sure seem annoyed by the info finders. What's that all about?

....And just because a person doesnt phrase something the same way you would, doesnt make it a Confrontation.
...If you did feel *slighted*, Perhaps a PM to the person when it happend, asking for clarification of his Intent, might have been a more appropriate response.
Just something to take into consideration.

What a winey little.... OMG- dare I say anymore- for fear of hurting his feelings, and then he may start another thread and start wining some more about his plight ?
Grow up DUDE, get over it....if you can't deal with a biker forum....Is there some other issue going on here??

Some of the socializers sure seem annoyed by the info finders. What's that all about?hmmm... I can't speak for anyone else, but when I see a question pop up about something that I can't answer directly, I'll try and point them to someone or to a thread that has the info that someone needs...
sometimes though, people get lazy, because thats human nature, and will just point out that the topic has been covered somewhere in another post...
I think I've even been guilty of it, but it doesn't mean I'm belittle'ing the original poster/new member about it.
We do try and help here ;)... I think I speak for pretty much everyone when I say that...
