In case you want a tach, I have a stock style one for sale, and I also have the sending unit and cable. Email me at bamf_shadow@yahoo.com if interested.

65mph on mine sounds a bit high in the revs but thats just my feelings , old iron wasn't ment to run highways at 65 really , I mean they can do it its just that they were made in an era of 55 so the final drive sproket was a bit small so I put in the biggest one I could fit and that helped a bit (maybe 500 r's)

If your gearing is stock, I believe your ratio is lower. You might be closer to 4000 rpm's at 60 mph, but I might be mistaken.

I've been at this for over 30 yrs and haven't had a tach on any of my HDs. Can't say I miss it. Don't know any better I guess.

That's funny. My wife's bike has 5 speeds and when I ride hers I'm constantly looking for 6th on that one. I do the same on my Electra Glide. I just shift until I can't shift anymore and stop thinking about it. :laugh

same thing , 85 750 black with more bumperstickers than a motorhome, ripped up seat rusty frame , ford parts, harley parts, alice chalmers parts, it was a killer rat bike

stopped at elkart lake races with a buddy who had a nice 64 trumpit chop , more people stopped to look at my rat shadow then his killer chop

My first bikes [Virago 500, Shadow 750] both had tachs. Got used to having one. My next bike [Shadow Spirit 1100] did not have one so i put one on. The ear thing is ok, but there are times when i could not hear it so well [heh heh]. Damn those other bikers [double heh heh].

My Iron is rev'ing about 4200 at 80 MPH with a 21T front sprocket and a 51T rear; this is stock. I do not like going over 80 on this bike [i'll cruise at 90 and go to 110 on the Evo]. I do not know what the rpm limit is for the bike. I am certain that it is much higher than 4200. It is the way it feels at 4200, it is my limit on this bike.

I have installed a 23T and a 49T - this should bring the rpm down by about 500 at 80 MPH. I anticipate that i will be able to cruise more comfortably at 75 to 85 mph and go up to 90 or so with the new sprockets. I'll find out come Spring!

Mine was a Prettie Bikie. Had a chrome fuel tank, chrome caliper covers, chrome fenders, chrome friggin' everywhere! I was embarrased to be seen on it for the first 3 minutes, then it got me. Was gunna keep it forever but a friend let me try his Shadow 1100. Then ...
