can anyone tell me if there are any specific procedures for welding cast steel? does it have to be pre-heated like cast iron? does it melt faster than mild steel? thanx :smoke

no issues compared to cast iron...

The thing to watch is try and pre heat and slow cool similar to cast iron but you don't need to peen the weld as it's cooling..

Anything cast has stresses in it and localised heating can/will bring these out...

I prefer low hydrogen rods as it gives more control

But basicly it's just like welding normal steel just make sure it's clean

if you need to do an overhead weld then Stick or TIG...

but if you can move the item to allow you to do it all downhand then MIG is fine.... just make sure you have enough penetration with MIG
