Lately my 04 883 will miss 2nd gear as I upshift, kicking back down to neutral. Not every time. More when its under hard acceleration from first gear- upshift to 2nd- and wheeeeee. Anyone else? I have been compensating by putting pressure on the lever upwards as I upshift to hold her there.

I was gonna tell you how to make adjustments as recommended in the service manual, but when you threw this in, now my concentration is totally shot

There are shifter dogs that engage the gears but I don't want to wade into something and leave you hanging out to dry. Ergo, stevo's yer man.

I know about the dogs, was just razzing him. Just finished covering the adjustment in the manual and looking it through on my bike, but agree with you, let stevo answer it.

It is a 04. Let the stealer fix it if it is still under warranty. If it is out of warranty I would call the motor company and tell to make an exception and fix it free because this is not right.

G'day Toothy
As ralph said...take it back to the dealer and get them to fix it....
It sounds like your shifter pawl adjustment ..... unfortunately I havn't opened an '04 up so I can't confirm that they are the same...adjustment wise...as the <='03's
It's not a difficult job..ya just need a #32 drill bit from memory on the <='03 and I'd guess the set up is similar on the 04's BUT take it to the dealer as it may be partially your clutch adjustment....and ya may be getting lazy on your shifts too

that's possible about the lazy shift foot. Thanks for the advise!
