View Full Version : Tour Pack
pperrone 17th May 2006, 00:29 Just added this tour pack. It's that start of a low budget 'sport glide' transformation. I am just having trouble getting the hard bags on. Both the tour pack and bags came from an ebay store, cool gear: http://stores.ebay.com/Cool-Gear_Motorcycle-Cases_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ4QQftidZ2QQtZkm
Paid $50 for the pack and $55 for bags, plus shipping, under $140.

Deicer18 17th May 2006, 06:30 Pete, did the tour pak mount to the luggage rack or did you buy the tour pak support by HD? I'm interested in doing this also.
Jeffytune 17th May 2006, 06:36 I would like to see a picture outside way from the stuff in the backround.
Looks like it should do the trick.
pperrone 18th May 2006, 00:22 yes it is mounted to a luggage rack, not H-D. I will take more pics some day, just got a lot goingon with the end of the school year. I teach high school band!
the pack is the smaller of the two offered by cool gear. it was very easy to attach. i plan to take off the rigid side plates though. i think snowman did something i'd like to do, detachable side plates with mini sisi bar, and luggage rack. the whole thing just comes right off. the problem is that takes lots of $ i do not have.
like i mentioned, my next obsticle is to get the bags mounted.
pperrone 18th May 2006, 00:30 i concidered the h-d tour pack rack, but two things differed me from it: A) money (of course), and 2) theirs is for riding solo. i want my wife to be able to ride also, and have the tour pack.

The pack looks good! Looks like you mounted it to the luggage rack. I ran that last year and worked great. Switched to the HD detach for this year and it takes up passenger space, but comes off in seconds. I did PM you on the hardbags and I'll help all I can. It really wasn't that hard......:banana :banana :banana
RonInFla 18th May 2006, 06:59 I'd like to hear your thoughts about that tour pack after some 2up riding with it. I'm considering the same deal, but would like to know how sturdy it feels to your passenger.

chrishajer 18th May 2006, 07:02 Be careful of loading too much in the pack. Having luggage that high up and that far back will tend to make the front of the bike feel light and less connected to the road. You might experience handling issues. Something to be aware of as you load up and take off.

ron, i have afeeling that it is not as sturdy as it would be on side plates and luggage rack. the rack it is on is aftermarket, similar to the ones you can get from motherwell. it wobbles a little bit. right now i am just going to have to check the screws every once in a while. the mounting nots ad bolts did not come with lock washers, so i think i am going to get locking nuts (those with the plastic in them).
so far i like it. can't wait till i figure out how to ount the ags though.

snowman 19th May 2006, 22:09 Pete,
Did you check the posts I put on my gallery of the mounts?
pperrone 22nd May 2006, 02:12 yes, i saw them. was there much cutting involved? I am going to check out the hardware stores for anything that might work without having to do any cutting or drilling. I don't have the needed tools for all that.
The pics give me good ideas as to what to look for.
I realy wish i could just buy easy brackets and be done with it!!!!

I'm pretty sure I saw a thread a while back slamming the smaller tour pack.
Thanks,
kdarejr 17th January 2007, 21:14 naw i have loaded my bike up real heave and did not notice any issues !
coconl 21st February 2007, 11:57 I have a two piece mustang seat and would be interested in using the travel pac as a back rest on the HD rack for the driver and taking off the passenger seat. is it well made or is it flimsy and would twist laying agaist it. Your bike looks good.
pperrone 21st February 2007, 23:30 i might use it that way. i want to mount it a different way on my bike, because the rack i have is not the stongest. i would say that it is not the best and strongest, but i would not call it the worste and weakest.
