example ... I paid $200 for my car and 8 grand for my sporty.
My car gets neglected and is doomed to the scrapyard if it incurs any major repairs. But my bike gets to sleep in the garage and gets regular care and feeding. Anyone with any similar or funny stories?

Seirra 4x4 - Paid: nothing ; Sell for: <1000$
Integra - Paid: 1600 bucks and it was totaled. I rebuilt it and drive it, very reliable; Sell for: if i was lucky maybe 2000 dollars. I'de be better off trading it.

94' XLH 1200 - I paid 5800 for it (sadly), Sell for: ~5000 if i found the right place to advertise.

I bought it new in '96, but now it's worth about 5,000 and last July I bought my 1200 custom new, so it's woth more right now. Since I got my bike (over 13,000 miles now) the Seirra has become a second mode of transportation, used maily when it's rainy, below 40 degrees, or to haul stuff.

My wife's New 883L is not though, she has a Tahoe. She just got it last week, and I expect she will use it to commute to work some, but mainly for weekend trips.

My 17 yr old son's Ninja is practically his only posession, worth about 2,000. It's his only mode of transportation excepth his Nikes & Mom.

The car I drive now is the most I paid for a car - $4000. It gets what it needs to survive and nothing else.

The bike stickered for $8600, and I must have another $4000 into it by now.

My car is worth twice what my Sporty is, but if some disaster happened and I had to come up with more cash than I could get by cashing in my investments and the equity I have in my house, I would sell the car before I would sell the Sporty....

Does that count? :wonderlan

My truck (1994 Explorer) was purchased used for $3800. Could probably sell for $1200. My bike (04 Custom) is worth at least $7K. I actually have a guitar + a couple of keyboards that are worth more than my truck. Everybody has different priorities - If I could, I'd love to get a new Pontiac Solstice, but I'm more likely to buy another Sporty before I do that.

My Sportster $8000
My Jeep $2000

Wife's gs500e $1600
Her Intrepid $13,500

Spare Truck $1000

So Yeah, I guess I paid more for my bike than my jeep (but the jeep was purchased from an Uncle). But the Wife's car was the highest. Not sating too much about it though....we generally buy the car new for her and she drives it 200K miles before trade-off. We get our $$$$ worth.

registration on my 95 S10 cost $47.50 per year,goes down each year:clap
registration on my 2K Sporty cost $98 per year, goes down each year:clap
truck taxable value about half of the XL:rolleyes:
Both due by the end of the month.... birth month at that, how about that for a nice birthday presant?:censor tax & registration collectors......

I am going to have them derate the tax on the s10 this year, it has 120k on the odometer and is 11 years old. that should cut yearly registration fees about 50% on the purple 4wd. older vehicles here are subject to reduced tax in Ky.

Well I own,

'95 Cavalier - My car, bought it with a bad motor cheap, It's a great car though!
'94 Taurus- Wifes car, had it since the end of high school, it aint bad either.

'04 Sporty - Bought it new, 1200C put at least $3K into it and 21K miles on it
'01 Dyna - Bought it used for $11,500 havn't done much to it yet
'82 XS400 - work and back bike
'82 XS400 - For sale.

So, MUCH more money in bikes! but house is still worth more at $80K or so

deanbruhn
19th May 2006, 20:31
hahah I am an urban redneck so here comes the list.

Bike 883 hugger worth maybe 5 or 6 g's if i found the right buyer Paid 8 g's for it and have probly dumped another 2000 to 2500 into it.

Car one 96 cavalier paid $1000 for it. worth about that now
Car 2 94 BMW 325i Paid $400 for it with bad ball joints off a kid worth 7 to 8 g's
Truck 85 ford f150 pair $2500 for it have been offered $5000 for it (mint condition)
95 chevy bus paid $500 worth about $1500 or more if i really tried to find a buyer (tour bus set up for a band)

So in total I have spent more money on my bike than all my vehicals combined. and at the moment it is the only one not running (damn motorcycles)

Got a car, pickup, bike.......spouse has pickup 03 Dodge 3/4 ton diesel, bike 04 wideglide. Here's the catch for me.....bought the car because it was relatively cheap...good on gas....and a good deal.... 04 Alero. The pickup is a 96 Dodge 3/4 ton....hauling hay etc. So, I'm not to hot on what my ride is as far as a vehicle goes.........Now my bike ...that gets alot of attention.....Like my mother said when she once borrowed my car , " what if I put a dent in it"....I said no problem...it's not my BIKE. I place alot more value on my bike.

Let's see ...

2006 XL1200R ... $10K new ... paid cash
2005 V6 Mustang ... about $23K new ... wife's car & her payments
2001 V10 Excursion ... $25K used ... my truck & payments
1997 car trailer ... $3K new ... paid cash
1966 Ford GT40 replica ... I built it with about $20K invested ... paid
assorted bicycles ... not worth assessing

Other than the car trailer, the Sporty's my cheapest ride. BTW, gonna' build a trailer for the bike, too.

We have three mini-vans and a Monte Carlo.

Two of the vans are at the end of their Blue Book values... I use one for Scout camping trips and the other for local runs. The latest mini-van is a 2006 and cost about $20K.

I bought the used Monte Carlo for my son when he entered college, then I bought myself the XL... they both cost $4K each.

So, we're about even with the value of the growing "fleet" of vehicles at Chateau Bradbury.... Thus far, we haven't determined what we're going to by for the twins, who are also in college.

TRUCKS
91 2WD S-10 = $800
79 Dodge Power Wagon 4WD = $450
BIKES
77 XLH = roughly $ 3000 (if I found the right buyer)
81 XLH = $4000 (what Ive got in it)
BOATS
92 Lowe jon boat and trailer = $1000
72 Jet boat = $4500

So yup my bikes are worth more than my other vehicles, with the exception of the boat

To me bike is worth more. I dont even drive my truck anymore (97 1 ton chevy pickup 4x4). When I cant ride the bike to work I ride with the wife in her car (04 Impala).
Is a sporty worth more than a 65 mustang??
I will say yes since I park the bike next door at my mothers and the bike is in the garage and her 65 mustang sits outside.

I remember an older friend in my teenage years who, for years, never owned a car. I always thought that he was so cool. He finally got soft and got a car, but his vocation has always been working on motorcycles. Today he works at one of the local HD dealerships.

Lets see 1992 Chevy Cavalier every time I fill it with gas I double it's value. Hey, it runs and as the Beach Boys once said "I got the pink slip daddy". Actually, I've had it for 5 years I think. I got it from an older lady who died (just a bit of lipstick on the tail pipe) had almost 15,000 miles, think I paid the family $1,800 whatever "blue book" was. I'm just getting to 80,000 miles, besides for a battery, tires and brakes I just change the oil. It gets me to work then home every day in :censor style, okay maybe not style. Now the other day I left it in a parking lot, keys in the ignition and the windows down, when I got back there was just a note on the windshield, said "No Thanks" :roflblack Hell, I'm pretty sure that my 1985 Honda CH250 Elite (scooter) would fetch more but again when I need the cage she has taken me where I need to go. So the reply is the :tour "Sporty":tour is worth much more.

I paid $4k for my (used) '95 Pathfinder + a couple of $k for repairs.
I paid $10k for my '01 Sporty (new) + a couple of $k for "upgrades"

I don't know blue book, but I'd guess the bike is worth more.

I own something like 22 cars and trucks, some high dollar collectables, and no, I don't have a junk yard! And I have 6 Harleys, from 64 to 04, and any one of my Harleys is worth more, ( by book value), than any of my cars or trucks.

And, of course as everone of us knows, they are each worth a hell of a lot more than book to the owner!!

I drive a 77 Chevy half ton, short wheel base, in line six cylinder engine, with a 3 speed on the column. She's worth about 1500 maybe, but worth a lot more to my heart. My Sportster, according to some, is dropping in value, but I guess she's still worth about 5,500. I got past all that fancy shit a long time ago. I am my own man and don't care what other people think about me, or need their approval either. If I can get up and look at the mirror and like the man I see, I am ok. I do depend on God though. Maybe that's why I love the Sportster.

Stuck in Kuwait without my Sportster

I have a '98 Caviler that I paid $3000 for (had it for years). My Sporty I paid $10k + extras for (had it for 2 years).

I decided to buy the bike instead of a new car. I love my Sportster, but I still want a new car.... I only have afew years left on the loan, I hope my car last that much longer with out any major repairs!
