I have a 2005 883-XL I keep reading conflicting things on the net and on the forums regarding haveing a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady with a Sissy Bar. I just bought an aftermarket Tall Boy Sissy Bar and Sideplates (JP CYCLES), and I would like to buy a Corbin gunfighter and Lady. Does anyone have this setup? Does it work? Anyone have it with the 3.3gal?

If you have a detachable setup that mounts on the outside of the
fender struts rather than on the inner portion (like the rigid sideplates do)
then you'll probably be ok................. but don't take my word for it..
I'd call Corbin and tell them what you have.
According to the Corbin web site:

Will not work with stock bolt-on Harley sissy bar, but will work fine with the detachable models.

Thats for the Custom, under the 2004-2006 XL Standard section, there's this:

Gunfighter & Lady saddle will also work with a variety of Harley-Davidson sissy bar models if you prefer (not shown)

Oh yes, you're right. My bad. I'm half asleep today. :p
Well, as I said, you can get a definitive answer
by giving Corbin a ringy dingy if someone here doesn't
have the setup already.

I had a corbin gunfighter and lady and the sissybar that corbin offers slips into the seat and screws in the back or underneath if the sissybar is in the front position. I think the seat is a bit wider at the tail than normal seats and hence the conflicting stories. I can't tell you if it will work but I can tell you that the built in sissy bar is a really nice feature. The nicest part about that seat is the integrated backrest so why use a sideplate mounted one.

For one the Sissy Bar and side plates are less $$ than the backrest. Also that backrest does not seem like it could handle big luggage like a sissy bar may be able to, I could be wrong. Believe it or not I likfe the look of the sissy bar as well, so I am kind of stuck on it. I really want to buy the gunfighter and lady, but if its between that and losing the fixed sissy bar I'll probably end up with a Mustang Daytripper or something. I may have to give Corbin a call tomorrow and see what I can find out

I'd love to get a Corbin. But for the same price, I can do a trip to Florida! All fuel and two overnights each way! So, I'll suffer with the stock seat...at least till my ship comes in......

The Corbin is the most comfortable seat I have owned and I have had quite a few.

Well, I finally talked to Corbin, and They said no to the Gunfighter and Lady with Sissy Bar. I have decided to go instead with the Mustang Daytripper.

I have the gunfighter & lady seat with HD rigid sideplates and the medium sissy bar and I have no problems with it.

I have been down this path... The Gunfighter and Lady will definately not fit with the bolt on sideplates. It will fit with the detachables ONLY if you are not using a luggage rack. If you are using the luggage rack, the hardware hits the seat. The other issue is that the combination of the detachables with the gunfighter and Lady doen't work well for the passenger. The backrest takes up a lot of room, the seat goes under the backrest.

My opinion is that Corbin's customer support :censor . They asssured me that this setup would work, then when it didn't, it took two months to get them to agree to refund my money. Good seats... poor customer service.

Ping me off-line if you need pictures of the clearance issues.

This must be specific to your year or something because on my '01 I use the Gunfighter and Lady with bolt-on sideplates and luggage rack and don't have any issues. The only inconvenience is that the medium sissybar puts the passenger pad in contact with the seat such that I have to remove the sissybar to remove the seat. Other than that I have no problems with that combination.

I have a 2004 1200C and the Gunfighter and Lady fit fine with my rigid side plates. I can't post pictures cause I'm dumb but PM me your e-mail or teach me how to post pics and I'll get you some to prove it works.

Is there a tallboy seat for the Sportster (XL1200R)?

I have the Corbin Gunfighter and Lady, with detachable sideplates, and a luggage rack. Pics in my gallery, link in signature. Mine is a 2002, so it could be something to do with the model years.

I swear by Corbin. I only wished I got convinced earlier. I kept the stock seat for a long time thinking a replacement was too expensive. Now that I've done it, I would change the saddle to a Corbin the first accessory I bought for a new bike. In fact, this IS what I did first to the softail when I bought it. LOL!!

I just tried to change over to detachable side plates (instead of the rigid plates I use now) with a medium sissybar and pad and luggage rack. I found that I could not get the whole luggage rack assembly on when the Gunfighter & Lady was on the bike. The problem wasn't so much the pad as it was the detachable side rails that curved in too much and hit the rear of the seat long before I was close to snapping it into place. Pity, I was looking forward to the whole detachable system.

I've read of several people using this combination with no problems so I don't understand what the difference is. Of course, I also read that the rigid side plates can't be used with the Corbin G&L but that's what I use normally.

I have the Corbin gunfighter and lady, and it does work with the HD detachable sideplates AND rack. Its tight, but works well. I'll post pics if you want to see it.

As 88inchsporty said, it is a tight fit, but it fits.

Crap! I think I just realized what I did wrong. When installing the docking hardware for the detachable rails I may have inverted the front mounting points. :doh That would have put the rails about 1/2" closer to the seat on either side making it too tight to actually mount with the seat on the bike. I won't be able to confirm this till I get home on Thursday but I'd lay money that's what I did wrong. I started ignoring the instructions for the docking hardware because they included all this extra junk that I didn't need and wasn't going to use due to the fact that my signals are back on the license. That and coming up with the proper combination of mounting hardware for my LeatherPros saddlebags and I likely just flipped those two docking points.

Thanks to everyone for reinforcing that it can be done and forcing my subconscious mind to ponder the problem. I look forward to attempting that installation again. :p

Okay, I made a second pass at installing the docking hardware for the detachables and realized that I wasn't an idiot the first time. I did install it correctly but I didn't realize then that my problem is my tank panel.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q205/tstoeckel/Motorcycle/Tankpanel.jpg

The tolerances are very close in getting the detachable side rails on around the Corbin seat under the best of circumstances but the thickness of the tank panel moves the seat just far enough back to prevent it from happening at all. If I remove the tank panel, I can get the whole side rails/sissy bar/luggage rack assembly to snap into place around the seat - its tight getting it on but once it locks into place, it isn't touching the seat. Unfortunately, that tank panel is one of the more useful things I've added to the bike and I use it all the time.

So now I'm looking for ideas on how to keep my tank panel. I suppose to could take it to a leather shop and have them cut the part that wraps under the seat and stitch it up so it looks nice and just lays on the tank. I could probably insert some flat magnetic strips and help hold it down to the tank.

Ideas? Recommendations? I hate to lose the tank panel but I like being able to remove the luggage rack in a hurry.
