hi all....i have a 2006 1200r and would like very much to install some removable hard bags for overnight trips. the dealer told me there is no such animal but somehow i doubt that to be the case. they suggested throwovers but i would prefer a hard bag if possible. if anyone has any suggestions or ideas i would love to hear them. i am looking for something easily removable so i can just pop them on and off. thanks for your help :D

H-D has hardbags for sportsters, super nice too. The new style i looked at cost $995.00, but i think they also have some for around $600 bucks. Don't know what's wrong with that dealer?

the dealer had the bags but he said they are all rigid mount...as in not quickly removable. i am looking for something that will pop right off.

National Cycle has some - but I don't like the looks of them.

I almost bought the LeatherLyke but saw a couple of complaints about cracking ot the lock tearing out of the top.

So, I wend for Boss Bags #27 which are detacheable and the leather had hard plastic lining. You can lock them with a padlock, but you do have to empty them almost all the way to remove them from the bike.

These are the best I've seen so far. They say they work with HD detachable hardware and are quick disconnect, lockable.

There are more than a couple of people on here who have em and like em.

They pop off with 2 clips located inside the locked bags.

They can also be used with detachables, like the luggage rack and/or backrest.

i've got bags off a dyna on mine using easybrackets, which are quick on and off ...BUT ... they stand off 3 inchs on each side, which makes you look kinda like a trike coming down the road. They work good if your not worried about what the whiners say

I've got the National Cycle hard bags. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like 'em. I leave them on pretty much all the time, but you can easily remove them leaving just the brackets on the bike.

Leather Pros worked the best for me. Lots of room.

I like them, who cares what some others might think if you like them. After everything is said and done what did they end up setting you back? And do you have a close up pic with the bags off? I would kinda like to see what the eastbrackets look like.

I changed my H-D rigid mount, leather covered hard bags into removables. See the pics on this thread: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=26045

The only problem is that with the bags off, I got to see how filthy my rear wheel had become. Time for some elbow grease.

Bill2 - The easybrackets were $129 with free shipping off ebay . I can't remember the name of the outfit but I'll try to remeber to post it tomorrow when I'm home. I got the bags off ebay too $50 plus $50 shipping from almost canaidia ...

I don't have a picture of the brackets , but they are very much like ghost brackets .. which has pictures on their site.

See my gallery. I installed the H-D hardbags, and used a different turn signal location than what came with the kit. Granted, they're not "removeable" per se, but a couple nuts/bolts each side and they're off.

I went through the same thought process about the saddlebags and decided, until I made up my mind, to try the HD multibag, which is a cordura bag that mounts on the sissy bar. After using it every day for the past several months to commute on, I am sold on this setup and have decided to forget the saddlebags. The multibag is a great little unit, and T-bags make larger and somewhat more complex ones, but HD has several sizes that work extremely well. They come with several built-in pockets to fit different size bars and pads and all you do is slip it over your bar and back rest, then either click-lock the straps around the rack or, as I do, just clip them around the turn signal mounts. Works great, quick-on and off, and convenient as all hell. I'm sold.

I came up with my own mounting system. Very cheap and keeps the bags tight to the struts. Comes off in seconds.

Another vote for the Leather Pros. OK they're not rigid bags as such (although they do have quite a rigid structure), but they are lockable, and lock to the bike, and take about 5 seconds to remove.

Before them I'd tried the H-D leather covered rigid bags, but they weren't great for my needs. They're considerably smaller inside than you expect. If I can't carry a Chinese take away home in them, then they're no use. I don't want to have to drive the car when I could ride!
