View Full Version : Easy Pull Clutch!!!!
xl1200c 1st June 2006, 01:36 I just installed the easy Pull clutch cam thingy on my 04 1200c. It makes it about 50% easier to pull your clutch lever. I would say its the best $25 ive ever spent on my sporty! If you don't have one get one.

karbunkle1952 2nd September 2006, 04:01 :tour I installed my own Easy Pull about 3 years ago. Made all the adjustments according to the instructions. It works just fine.
I just had my 2002 xl into the dealer for warranty repair on the primary gasket. It seeped after 25000mi.
Anyway, when I rode the bike a couple of days later home from work, in stop and go traffic, the bike started creeping.
Dead stop, clutch pulled in, flat intersection, toasty warm 75 degree day, the bike starts slowly creeping forward on it's own. That's a weird sensation.
I call the dealer to have him recheck and adjust the clutch screw. I get this question..."When was the last time I had it in for a service?" What? Why? All I ever do is change the oil and clean the K&N air filter. It runs great, in fact, it would still be running great if I hadn't brought it in for service. Geesch.
The dealer took another look at it, adjusted the clucth screw under the derby and I'm back on the road...$18.00 a week it gas back and forth to work.
What a money saver.
barnes138 2nd September 2006, 04:04 I don't seem to have a problem pulling the stock clutch lever..... what's it for, heavy traffic?
wabiker 2nd September 2006, 04:06 Thats good to hear.... I always thought they were just another *aftermarket gimmick*

Well, if you're like me and have a touch of old "Arthur" (Ritis, that is) in your hands, along with trigger finger and tendonitis in your left hand/arm, you'd definitely find the stock clutch to be extremely painful after a while, especially in stop and go traffic. In fact, my hand and arm hurt so badly on the way home from PA yesterday, that I told my hubby I was seriously considering selling my bike 'cause it's just too painful to ride :( I'm glad to hear that these things work and am going to see if I can find one for a decent price right NOW! :clap
Thanks for the heads up! :)
Sportster Girl 5th September 2006, 21:25 Good to know. I have one sitting at home, haven't installed it yet. Just waiting on the time to change the primary fluid and I'll stick it in there.
xena 5th September 2006, 22:15 My clutch was a bear but that was resolved
when I installed a barnett braided clutch cable.

Cool...
I just contacted the seller and he said he will send me a paypal request for $33 and I can just by it direct.
I think is website is "easypullclutch.com".
I bet he has about $5 in part on these things, but its worth $33 to me.
I will add it when I add amsoil to my tranny.
Adios
CustomBlue 13th September 2006, 07:11 used for for a year now, well worth the investment and took maybe 15 minutes to install...yes,make sure you adjust cable properly after install
SportsterBart 13th September 2006, 07:20 I think I'll keep my clutch pull stock and stiff.
It helps to keeps my left hand strength in proportion to my right, of which I use a LOT more :shhhh :p :laugh

XLXR 14th September 2006, 06:48 Have you guys with the hard clutch pull tried to lube the clutch cable? I use something called Bike Aid made by Guardsman. It says it is a Moly Dry Film lubricant. Black graphite looking stuff in thin oil that evaporates leaving the moly behind as lubricant. The only catch is that you have to get the cable end pointing up for the lube to flow down. It is easiest with two people, one leans the bike to the right and turns the handle bars so the cable end is high. The other person can pull in the clutch and put about 5 or 6 drops of lube in the cable sheath and squeeze the clutch a few times to work the lube down the cable. You do not want to flood it with so much that it drips into the transmission.
Since I have been lubing dirt bike cables for years, I do it slightly differently. I stand in front of the clutch, squeeze the clutch with my right hand and grab the black outer sheath up close to the clutch housing with my left hand, as I slowly release the clutch, I pull on the sheath until the fitting on the end of the sheath comes out of the clutch housing. Then I lube the cable with 5 or 6 drops and let it sit a few minutes to let the lube flow down the cable. To reinstall the cable, hold the lever all the way forward, pull on the black sheath until the end fitting slips back into place. It takes a bit of strength and finesse to do it this way, so you have to decide if you can do it by yourself.
If the feel of the clutch goes from sort of draggy and indistinct to smooth and springy, you did good. The springy feel is from springs in the clutch.
A last word of caution, this lube can get messy, so don't overuse it, be sure to get it directly on the cable and down the sheath, and keep a paper towel to clean up messes.
joesporty 20th September 2006, 05:17 im with xlxr my clutch was painfull to pull. i just used some chaincase lube took the cable off the clutch handle ued a little wd 40 straw to kinds guide it onto the cable while working it back and forth. i was actually scared to put it into gear the first time i started it thinking something was loose inside the case becuase it was so much easier to pull. took me about 3 days of riding to get used to how fast the handle moved. try lubrication first it takes about 2 minutes
Renegadez 23rd September 2006, 05:20 does anyone else have anything reviews of the easy pull clutch?? I am thinking of buying one
whispanic 23rd September 2006, 07:01 Got mine a couple of days ago...
Plan on getting it on .... hmmmm... anyways INSTALLING it in a week or so.
Letcha know what happens
Adios
Renegadez 25th September 2006, 16:57 Any news on the EZ?
mardyk 25th September 2006, 17:08 FWIW, I saw a couple of people here waiting to install this thing until they change the primary fluid. You don't have to wait. No oil comes out when you remove the clutch cover. Put the bike on a lift and put the thing in. It takes about 10 minutes and works great. If you do a lot of spirited riding and/or stop and go traffic it really saves your left hand.

My dealer was outstanding! He was doing some other work on the bike so he installed the EZ pull at the same time. He sees these all the time! :tour
Renegadez 26th September 2006, 19:28 I just ordered one for my bike:)
Renegadez 3rd October 2006, 02:06 Ok I got the EZ and Installed it im not quite sure HOW it should feel is there suppose to feel like it has a break point like stiff and then easy relaxed when pulled in to the handle bar?
xena 3rd October 2006, 02:14 Wow, imagine the EZ Pull and the braided cable together - like butter!
The barnett braided cable already makes
operating the clutch easy as butter. Thats
why I said the gadget is not necessary if one is going
to get a braided cable - go with Barnett.
Renegadez 3rd October 2006, 20:52 What did you pay for your Barnett Xena?
Shai`tan 21st February 2007, 02:23 I got the ez pull clutch mechanizm 1st, and it helped tremendously. But now I got the Barnett braided clutch cable, and it IS like butter now.
ferreira 25th February 2007, 09:54 I stopped by this huge high tech bicycle shop to pick their brain as far as cable lubrication goes, the dude said that they use TRI-FLOW on they're cables. We use it at work to lubricate aircraft engine components..its awsume stuff and its sold at AUTOZONE. I live in the northeast and my car door hinge was makin this horrible grinding sound cause of road salt..WD40 or BLASTER could"nt after many attempts quiet it down..TRIFLOW silenced the squeek with ONE SQUIRT!! Im sold.
Xldevil 25th February 2007, 11:46 Hey.
