It was my first time on a drag strip.

My best time was a 12.6 which i'm really pleased with.

Hopefully I won't get the bug that bad. :p One thing that surprised me though, is that unlike a rollercoaster ride, the more passes I did, the more exciting it seemed to get.

Have you raced at high altitude Kerry and if so, what times did you get?
What times were you getting without the bottle?

Oh yeah, one more thing, I BROKE THE BELT AGAIN !!!!! Looks like it's time for a chain conversion.

That's a good run, but to be honest I think you can get a much quicker time out of that motor. I think you should be able to reach down into the 11's. Make sure to keep us posted what your other runs looks like. I think that was great for you first track run though. :clap :clap :clap :clap

There were some guys at the track saying that sea level is about 1 second faster. So that puts me around mid 11's.
I still haven't tuned the carb after the build. Still stock jets etc. Also i'm yet to play with the timing curves. I just set it quickly to fire the engine and it worked, so i left it where it was set.
The rear tyre is bald in the middle and really doesn't provide good traction. Every run I had wheelspin of the line and also in the change to 2nd.
I think with some practice and the bike being tuned I could get .4 - .5 off that time but who knows. Right now i'm just pumped because I did it. :D :smoke :D

Ahhh, remember my first runs in 94 real well. Wiseco conversion, Mikuni 40 carb, Supertrap pipes that I still run. Had a few 12.40 runs close to 110.
Went to Milan Michigan dragstrip to watch the "Harley Drags". Drove my pickup truck. Talked to the tech tent and asked what I needed to do to run my bike on Sunday. Show up early, give us some $$$ and have fun was the answer. Ran in the eliminator bracket class and did pretty good, made it to the seni final round. :clap Barely got beat breaking out against a sandbagger. :doh
Went out of state for the last two races of 94. Ran all of the 95 schedule while setting the bike up for the SS/XL class. Heads up on a pro tree. Ran good in 96 taking the SS/XL class championship and setting the quarter mile ET record during the last race that year. After dominating the class in 96, the other guys in the class either moved up to modified or didn't come out to play. :frownthre 97 was an easy class champ year with dwindling competition. I didn't care to move up in class so 97 was my last year.

A couple of months ago I took the bike down to the dense, clean air of Acapulco. It kept wanting to lift the front just accelerating from lights.

At this altitude, we lose around 30% power.

Damn, I thought those times were fast when I first read it, but now I see the location and the altitude and they are quite amazing. I was pretty proud of my 13.6 last week considering I'd never done it before and all I have is a Ram-flo, a Thunderheader, and a poorly tuned carburetor! Haha, good job! :)

I think that is a good time. My buddies also ran. One has a '99 1200S and the other an '02 883C - 1200 basic conversion. They both were running 14.5 - 14.7.

Way to go!

I hope to be able to take mine down the track some when I get it going. I got a set of Pingle wheelie bars with the Buell, and Beech Bend Raceway isn't that far away.

Did you break your belt at the track?

ted

Beech Bend is my favorite track, ran my best times there.

Did you break your belt at the track?

Yup, on the 6th run changing into second. At first I thought i fried the clutch or tranny but after I finally got to the end of the track I saw it was the belt. Kind of a relief actually.
I'm going to try and put a chain on it tonight.

Way to go Cameron, hope the chain conversion goes well and solves your breakage problem. Should pay for itself, those belts aint cheap.

Didn't get to work on it. The indy, where I worked didn't want to work through the night so it'll have to be tomorrow (Monday) now.

Thanks Bill. I'd hate to run a Scottish 1/4 mile. Too many curves in the track :roflblack
You got some windy roads over there.
