Well the std heads and the larger mikuni 48 carb changed my 112 hp 88 inch into a 127 horsepower 88 inch. Adding 15 hp after the point I was already at was extremely satisfying, buy NHRS is sure there is even more in there with a little more tuning and some further break in time.
I am very pleased with another 15 hp....then of course there is the edelbrock nitrous kit, which was huge and made me glad NHRS recommended the iron cylinders to take the heat .

That is completely bad a:censorss.

That's way over twice the HP and T of a Stage I TC88. Ha!

I would love to hear that bike run!

Great performance can you post exactly what you had done to your engine?
I just like dreaming of these things!

Paychecks... I think my entire retirment funding is gone... Hopefully I'll be able to live off my winnings later in life... then I woke up. Damit I hate day dreams! So have you come up with any kind of hanns device for your neck yet? Thats got to be one heck of a snap at the line.

Damn, thats alot of power would love to see that thing run. 158hp and a 136 torque out of a Harley thats preety wicked how much money you got invested in that thing to be pushing that much power.

Looks like you'll be seeing what a 9 second run feels like.:tour :tour

Leo,
A lot of both!! ;)

The heads alone have about 20 hours of porting time into them.

Wow...I know you got it set up for drag but could you actually put that on the road as a daily or is it strictly track?

Im impressed with the "all-motor" 127/107 numbers. I know what 115/95 feels like on a 77". Adding 10% more is significant. Nitrous is just a part time "gas booster", but it is a very fun(And safe for the motor relatively speaking) add-on. :) What cams and compression are you running BTW? The Mikuni 48mm is a good match on a hot motor. What carb were you originally running? To pick up that much hp from the carb alone makes me think you had a HSR42 or a stock CV40, or something that severely restricted the engine. That was a big pickup in hp.
That 15 hp was with the heads too.

Awsome Narley. Don't know about HP figures but the 1/8 mile record holding H-D from a local shop here ran 4.30's. Surprisingly it ran on alcohol and always sounded like it was only running on one cylinder. You would have thought it was the biggest piece of crap in the barn but it sure went down the race track. Thing would stomp some of the mountain motor pro stock cars around also. Would think all that HP will put you in the nines easy. Good luck on the new season!

Thanks to all...its an amazing ride all right. I will attempt to answer all the posts in one here.
Can I post exactly what I have done....NO!! Ha...I either cant remeber or dont have that much time. But the summary is
axtell iron cylinders at 3 13/16
std heads with just over 2 inch intakes. ported to death by NHRS. Dual plugged
adjustable pushrods
redshift 643 cams
cp pistons set to 12.3-1 cr.
mikuni 48 carb sitting on 3 one inch extensions.
edge aluminum rods and lightened flywheel assembly.
RD motorsports back cut race tranny with trap door.
twintech 1005 ignition with two step .
chain conversion with 18 inch rear rim.
Edelbrock nitrous system.....
those are the majors.
Hmmmmfff......now I see where my money went.....my wallet is empty, but my credit cards are full!

The bike originally cost me 10k ,since then I have added about another 9 k.
Busy dizzy ,the previous carb was the screamin eagle aka mikuni 45.

Jaws , yes it is my daily ride, but really in the summer I only ride on weekends because I have to work to make up for time off when I am away racing.
Many thanks to the folks at NHRS. And to my mechanic Jim at hoyes place here in Canada.

2 questions; What were the heads you had before? Make, Ported?, Valve size?
Did you try the 45mm on the new heads?

Congrates Narley!!! Those are some really good numbers. You will definaltly be in the 9's now. I know all about the money part H.P. doesn't come cheap and the more you make the more it cost's

Sam, an honor to hear from you. the heads were tsorms zippers stage 2 with 1.84 intakes. You can see their site for a better description. No we didnt try the 45 on the new heads. went straight to figuring out the new lego blocks fit together.

Nitro, thanks...yeah first race was a disaater ,it was an 1/8th mile due to track issues. How was your race?

My 1'st race didn't go good either they cancelled it because there wasn't enough bikes that showed up. They didn't do a good job promoting it, but they made it up to all of us. This was their first event in a totaly new series so they are just learning, but i think they are on to something and am going to stick with them. I invite everybody to try out AMDRAGS the series is run by AMERICAN IRON MAG. They have a class for everyone so check out there site AMDRAGS.com There was 4 bikes in the flash class and i went the fastest out of all them.

Do you have flow numbers on the Tstorms vs. STD?
Never mind, just read the note re; NHRS.

Mine blubbered badly at Bonny with the 48mm,
seemed better on the 45.

And the 42 is going on for her retirement party. ;)

Sam ,we did end up with surprisingly small jets on the 48...162.5 -167.5 range was the happy spot....oddly the carb came with jets in the 200 range. We were at 2000 feet.. Now I need to figure out how to get a stack to mate up smoothly...I think I have a poor transition from my stack to the carb opening.

Narley,
Does Zippers have one for a Mik?

My dyno pass is 5 years old now.
And I had a first generation 40mm.
I'm sure the new 42 will suffice.

I think I'll take her up for another run, now that she's back on two wheels
for a while. Hope he can fit 68" wheelbase on it.....

the miks have a curved lip so How do I get a stack to butt up to that lip...gotta look and see if that lip is removable?

chrishajer
21st June 2006, 21:25
The lip is part of the carb body I think.

I think there are ones that clamp on from the outside (Joker Machine or Doherty?), but I think a better solution would be to find one close to what you want then weld/machine the part that fits the carburetor for a smooth transition. You could also make it the length you need too at that point.

I thought the OD of that lip on the 45 and 48 was the same diameter as the 42, which would mean a stack for a 42 would work.

Great number's there. With that much power I think it's time to tune your wheelie bars to get all that power to the ground. Get the lower bars below the swingarm and parallel with the ground. This way the top bar pushes back on the wheels and the bottom bar pulls them forward. This way the rear tire gets a good plant and your 60 foot times will inprove. With the bike on the bars the front wheel should be at least 2 inch's off the ground for starters. What is your 60ft times.

How about low 9's ???

Narley
23rd June 2006, 19:32
Low 9 's maybe with low 1.4 60 foots , but my best 60 foot has been only 1.45, and my average is more like 1.55.
The best run I have had was only an 1/8th and it was 6.22, that translates into a mid 9 run especially for nitrous bikes that pull hard to the end.

zippers stage 2 tstorms
28 inches 275 intake at 600 lift 215 at 500 lift
220 exhaust at 600 205 at 500 lift
comb chamber 73 cc zero deck.

new nrhs std heads
intake 155 at 500 lift 226 at 700
exhaust 108 at 500 114 at 700

for comparison since the two use different measurement standards.
the std at 28 "is
inatke 259 at 500 and 316 at 600 lift
exhaust 180 at 500 and 185 at 600 lift.

Dakin Engineering
24th June 2006, 13:56
Hmmm,
1.840" intake flowed 247 cfm @ .600 lift
1.515" exhaust flowed 149 cfm @ .600

.650 lift gained 3 more cfm on the intake, nada on the exhaust.
.615 cams; perfect

I now have more money in them than the bike cost new. <sigh>
I just hope EFI is available for my next project in a couple years.

I'm almost done with my 88 inch motor, and will be happy to have over 100 lb ft and 100 hp at the rear. Your numbers are impressive to say the least!
