I'll be out of town and away from my computer, so I'll take the liberty of replying early in hopes that you'll understand:

1. Left, though the manufacturer provided for each customer to choose left, right, or center and included an option for overhead installation.

2. 216.7 h.p, ET = 2.1 sec, and 17 cams

3. three nipples

4. stainless steel, though further tests showed it to be unacceptable as a prophylactic

I think you have my address on file to send the air cleaner. Delilah's measurments are below, and thanks in advance.

let's see if I can try my shot at figuring out the questions there...
1)Where is the "eject" on the new BMW Z5?
2)What are the specs (horsepower, 1/4 mile time, and #of cams) for Santa's new gas powered sleigh?
3)What is better than 2 nipples?
4)What was the first material used by the Terminator for birth control?

You got #3 wrong: What did God's first woman have that today's woman does not? three nipples

You have to look for the joke posted elsewhere: God created woman with three breasts, took away the middle one and made man from it.:D

Ha quite a few with the right answers I will announce the winner tonight.

The answers were:

Nova

Competition Hot

1959

stevo
1st March 2005, 09:59
You could fine tune the questions by asking how many cylinder the Nova project engine had.......

as I know the answer

bplinson
1st March 2005, 10:04
I may be wrong but I believe there were actually two NOVA motors, a V4 and a V6. The one shown in the photo was a V4. Ford was testing them also to put in a compact car!!!

Maybe I should have asked who designed the NOVA but that would be too easy!!

stevo
1st March 2005, 10:10
from my info there was 3 configurations.....2 , 4 and 6

And I think that was one of the earliest times that HD got into bed with Porsche

bplinson
1st March 2005, 10:14
Yes Porsche designed the NOVA. I was thinking there was a 4, 6, and 8 cylinder version.

It was definately a revolutionary bike. I really like the radiator under the seat idea they and the large air scoops up front. I did not like the boat tail look though and hated the big ass bulge of plastic under the seat.

OK Crackers ..

Do you know where the inspiration came from for the Nova project??????

yes??????

NO????????? :D

come now Crackers ...being a VF1000 owner ya know what 4 in a V is like :D (I've had 5 of 'em ;))

Ducati had tried a number of years earlier to get a V4 into production.....it was called the apollo....one of the main ideas behind it was aiming at the US police service and ousting HD

It didn't work as it made too much power for the tires available at the time and would light up the rear quite easily :D ...yeehaa the milder tuned version was just too heavy for the time without the extra power..

It was shelved.....and then HD tried a similar thing with Porsche a number of years later.. that was the Nova....

It's interesting that even tho the Nova was shelved before the management buy-out....it has been developed a bit further and re-born as the V-rod

OK Crackers ..

inspiration.. no not quite
but with the v4's of the 70's and 80's (vf's, vmax's etc..) it didnt take einstien to figure any mo.co. might have thought that was the future.

by the way my answer was
1982 61 ci. HARLEY NOVA PROJECT
WATER COOLED PROTOTYPE

yeah they had 6 configurations in total..

they had 2 sizes of cylinder a 200 and a 250..

then there was 3 set ups of those....giving twins of 400 and 500, 4's of 800 and 1000 and 6's of 1200 and 1500

One of the reasons for the radiator under the seat was WIllie G didn't want it out the front....and you can see his influence in the rear end with the "boat tail" look similar to the FX he did at the time.
You can also see his influence on the radiator of the V-Rod...although someone else obviously designed that one, thankffully...did I say I HATED the "boat tail" look...

Unfortunately with AMF pullin the plug on development $$$$ after they had a change of company president, it was shelved....
AMF pullin the $$$$ was also the main force behind the 13 HD mangers buyin the company from AMF....
Because they'd sold their souls to the bank, they didn't have the $$$$ to develop both the EVO's (big twin and sporty) AND the Nova...so it was shelved..
It would have been interesting to see them go up against Honda's V4's....I think it would have cost them tho....one of the things that helped HD was the ties back to an earlier time with the quintisential V-Twin..

Although HD USED to have a very strong racing following.... that seems to have been forgotten by most these days...
