View Full Version : Badlands signal conversion...Great Product
XL Custom 1200

I just wanted to let everyone know that if you plan on converting your rear turnsignals into running brake lights. This is the product for you. I wish all accessories were this simple. Just take off seat and unplug rear light plug and stick one in one side and the other in the other side and there you have it. I could not be happier. Great product, and well worth the money.

But Harley's unit doesn't convert the turn signals into running lights. They only light up when the brakes are used.
I want the lights to be on all the time.
Kuryakyn makes a rear run-turn-brake controller that allows the rear lights to be on all the time. Also has pulse brake function (flashes 4 times before steady light). $70. at J&P.
Badlands is a good unit but doesn't have pulse brake capability. More expensive, $110.

Whispanic is correct. The harley unit does make
the rear turn signals into running lights, and does
include the red lenses as well. I have the same
69463-06 on my sporty. 35 dolla-an 84 cent
from Zanotti motors (https://www.zanottimotor.com/shopping/pLookUp.php). Just bought it 2 weeks ago.
Love it. Sportster Girl got tired of hearing me rave
about what a sensational deal it was, so last week
she sprung for one as well.
Installs under the seat - same deal as that overpriced
badlands module.
One thing to note, this part number whispanic and I posted,
I believe will only fit 2004-2006 sportsters.

I searched the Harley website and couldn't find p/n 69463-06. The only one I could find was 68286-04 which adds the running light feature and includes the red lenses, but is only for 04+ models. I don't have easy access to a dealer so I can't go look and see if they have it. Anyone know of an online site to check it out?

Rich, did you not read my post directly above yours? That part
number IS only for the 04 - 06 sportsters....and, visit the
zanotti link I posted. You can check the part numbers there.
Guys, check out post #19 in THIS (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=27734) thread for more info
on the module part# that fits others.

Granted, you have to buy the red lenses, $3.00 each but the Harley lights ONLY come on while braking. They are not running lights. They only add the turn signals lighting when braking.
Followed enough of our riders with the Harley conversion. 1 light running, 3 lights braking.
I have the Kuryakyn and have 3 rear lights on while riding. While braking they come on also and I want that pulse feature. Wakes up the tailgater.
Never needed an adapter for my Sportster. (Pulled the seat off, opened the plug and inserted into existing wiring. 5 minutes and it's done, no wiring changes needed.) Only needed if you need the 8-pin hardware adapter.
Maybe PN 69463-06 is a better unit. It isn't in the P&A book, maybe they got smart and corrected the lesser kit.
I'll pay extra $6.00 for red lenses and have more lights for the cages to see.
I don't want to be an invisible rider.
The $45 Harley kit doesn't provide much, other that adding the turn signals to the braking.
Maybe Harley got smart and added the running lights so they would stay on but they didn't in earlier kits.
Isn't worth it, spend a bit more and get more protection. You can't have too much protection with the cages.

:headbang Wow is this thread frustrating. Anyway, if you buy from Zannottis they want $35 for the part plus $15 shipping. If you can find a friend to go in on two the shipping is only $11 so $50 for one or $83 for 2. I know the math is off but I'm rounding off.
Chicagoharley.com has them for $37 plus $6.50 shipping. $43 or $7 less than Zannottis.

Vegas is correct. Shipping is high at zanotti's,
so yes, if you have multiple items to purchase
you'll make out better.

There is another thread (somewhere) where this was discussed. I had intended to get the one without the running lights to replace the same (H-D unit) I had burned out when hooking up some (rear) turn signal strut LED lights. After getting the H-D unit WITH the running lights (accident really, I was not paying attention when I purchased the unit it was on the Harley "new" release board) my opinion has changed! This is a great unit :gun . I paid $45.95 from Doc's Harley. It only says "Kit, Brake & TS Module and fits later Sportster's (mine is a 2005) The unit does not require you to change bulb or socket on your turn signals it is a "plug-n-play" and you have running lights/brake/turn signals and it really lights up your rear :clap I work in an ER in the city and often go in at midnight so I really like the extra rear lighting. There is nothing else to buy with the H-D unit. I'm sure other's make a good unit and all but this is under $50 and it works :banana but don't H-D stand for "Hundred Dollars" :doh I really did like the idea of the brake lights coming ON from the off position but I must say that the extra running lights just plain make you more  visable:eek: and when you hit the skids the lights go to  "bright" It's not rigged with a :gun back-off:gun but does clearly go "BRIGHT" so get whatever floats your boat but it's a groovy system:frownthre :frownthre .

Zena, Yes I read the posts above mine but since it didn't answer my question it didn't help. I did not find the part number you (and others) gave on the HD site so I asked if anyone knew of a site to look at it. The Zanotti site shows that they have it but I did not see where it gave a description of what models it fit.
Yeah the thread is frustrating because some people don't

The part number I gave info. about and the one you posted were different. Did you not see that? Sorry if I frustrated anyone by asking a question.

Lots of times the HD web site won't bring up part numbers..whether they are new numbers and not yet in their database I don't know. The part number may be different than what you had. That is common when HD adds a new item or for whatever reason changes a part to a new number...but regardless, write down the part number for the run-turn-brake module that folks here have said will fit your year sporty, and shoot zanotti a phone call and ask them if you want to verify it fits before you buy.

I just bought the brake/turn/running lights module too. I plan to completely remove the brake light and use only the turn signals as running/brake lights like the new 1200N. Kick ass.

I talked to the guy at HD when I bought my conversion kit for my 06. He told me that The older kits (like the one he had) were brake and turn only but they have since changed that to include running lights also. I would rather have had just brake and turn simply for the effect of the turns not being on at all untill braking. I will also say that if someone is looking into this, double check if the softail kit is the same electrical wise, if so, the kit for them also comes with the shorter turn signal mounts and the total kit is only $56. If I would have know this I would have gone this route.
For sportster:
http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444876493 8&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302290027&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302290027&bmUID=1170452418413&bmLocale=en_US
Oh and by the way, if anyone who already has this conversion and would like to keep your rear lenses red but smoke the fronts, check out my classified add, I'd love to split a set with someone...http://xlforum.net/pp_classified/showproduct.php?product=1347&sort=1&cat=4&page=1

I just put the HD version on my '03 a couple of months ago and they are RUNNING LIGHTS with included red lenses. I paid $49.99 from LVHD.
Took me 3 minutes to take off the seat, unplug and replug the connectors and put the seat back on and I am a mechanical midget......
